It appears that the antivirus I had just installed was blocking connections to the beta server. Furthermore, it was blocking ASGS entirely (connectivity failure, please check your connection).

It continued to block the connections even after disabling the firewall and all other features. It didn't allow me to close the antivirus from process, and the problem persisted even after all ESET-related services had been disabled.

I uninstalled it entirely and the problem ceased to manifest.

I miss my old, simple nod32 that did what you told it to. :boohoo:

Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this, please move/delete if that is the case.

ESET Smart Security does what every other firewall integrated antivirus software does on Vista/7. It blocks SSDP broadcasts, blocking Alleg. The rule is built into the low level driver it and every other firewall integrated software installs. I'll go as far as to say that Microsoft asked them to do this because of potential security issues.

Install NOD32 Antivirus to get your old simple NOD32 back.

Strange - I've been using ESS / NODS32 for years and never had a problem with the Alleg connectivity because of it.

Currently I'm at 4.0.467.0 under Windows 7 x64 v6.1 Build 7600 with the following details:

Virus signature database: 4883 (20100220)
Update module: 1031 (20091029)
Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1261 (20100209)
Advanced heuristics module: 1100 (20100126)
Archive support module: 1107 (20100105)
Cleaner module: 1048 (20091123)
Anti-Stealth support module: 1012 (20090526)
Personal firewall module: 1056 (20100202)
Antispam module: 1013 (20091104)
SysInspector module: 1214 (20100127)
Self-defense support module : 1009 (20090917)

Everything is enabled w/ Personal Firewall in Automatic Mode.

I didn't have to change or touch anything in ESS to get Allegiance to work.
