Problem Encountered at Step #: Allegiance launches, resizes screen then crashes.
Which Program (ASGS/Allegiance): Allegiance
What Error Message: Allegiance exited with code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Comments (What you tried, description, etc):
ASGS launces the game. I see a blank screen for a few seconds. Then the window bar at the top appears showing "Allegiance". Then the screen returns to Windows and ASGS shows "logging out"
I haven't tried anything else as I wouldnt know what to try.

EDIT: When I tried to log in the first time, it started downloading lots of files individually. But not in the usual way (you get into the game with the red screen to download updates). The files downloaded through ASGS instead.
Then it told be about some DirectX error. So I downloaded the latest Direct X from Microsoft. I don't get THAT error now, but rather the one stated above.

If you have a folder called Microsoft Games\Allegiance\artwork\dev delete the dev folder, if it still doesnt work run ASGSUpdate found in the Allegiance folder.

I deleted the Dev folder and then emptied my recycle bin. Tried running the game and got the same problem

Then tried the ASGS update. It downloaded a file. Tried to get in and again the same problem with the same error message.

:(

Try deleting file called filelist.txt, then run ASGS and select Help->Update/Repair critical files.

I believe this is a bug that has presented itself to many other players after the upgrade of DirectX.

Reinstalling your video drivers should solve the problem.

I'm sorry for causing you guys more work, and for seeming like a total retard.... but...
I re-installed my graphics drivers - no change.
I completely uninstalled my graphics drivers (causing me to have to use a different monitor afterwards as I have a flat screen) then re-installing the graphics drivers - no change.

I deleted the file and ran the update on ASGS, and still nothing.

I'm 99% sure I did everything correctly. What to do now?

Well, that's a good start.

The most frequent cause of that particular error is usually graphics related - Allegiance is attempting to load a graphic file and it barfs on it. It could be a driver, a corrupt graphics file, an interaction between those and directX, etc. Very hard to pin down.

Since we now have new drivers, you might want to consider a re-install of Allegiance. But let's capture some data first. I would like you to reboot your machine. A Hard reboot - in other words, power the thing down (off), wait a few seconds, then boot up normally. (Powering down resets the hardware, you see. A warm boot usually just cleans up memory 'n stuff, but doesn't affect the hardware components and they can be left in a "bad state" if we only do a warm reboot.) If you really want to be pedantic, you could unplug the AC from the box for a minute or two, plug it back in, then reboot.)

Now launch Alleg and see what happens. If you still crash, I want you to grab the log files for later diagnosis. These are: VideoSettings.log, DeviceCreation.log and DirectInput.log found in your \Allegiance folder. Copy those to some place safe (Desktop or whatever). Also copy your inputmap1.mdl file too, located in the \artwork folder. (This is your keybindings file so we want to save that.)

Once those files are in a safe place, we're going to try a re-install. Uninstall Allegiance. Reboot. (reboots are important!) Go to your Allegiance folder and make sure everything is nuked, deleted, destroyed, nothing exists - including any hidden files. Grab a new copy of the Allegiance installer. Install it. Reboot. Try running the game and report back here. If all goes well, you can copy your inputmap1.mdl file back to the \artwork folder to restore your key bindings (Allegiance should not be running when you do this).

ugh... I re-installed the game as told to above. (rebooting in between and such)

I still have the same problem, but what concerned me most is that after the re-install, ASGS still had my login information. I deleted everything from the Alliegiance folder, so how could that have happened?

One more time by the numbers...

1. Download Driver Sweeper and install but do not run it yet.

2. Reboot the computer and just prior to the windows splash screen (Windows Icon), hit the F8 key and select to boot into "Safe Mode".

3. Select to log on as yourself, do not select the "Administrator" account, that will only create another unnecessary profile on your computer, you ARE the administrator so log on with your account.

4. Goto control panel and uninstall your graphic drivers from the "Add / Remove Programs", do not reboot if asked to do so,.. if forced to reboot, go right back into Safe Mode to complete this procedure.

5. Run the Driver Sweeper while in Safe Mode and "Clean" ONLY the display drivers, don't mess with the chipset drivers.

6. Reboot normally... and CANCEL any "Found new hardware" pop-ups. Do NOT allow windows to search for new drivers or collect any from the internet.

7. Install your video drivers by running the setup program provided with your drivers.

If this does not work, please provide the manufacturer and model number of your Laptop and we can help you find alternative drivers.

OK I followed all of the above to the letter.
Here is what happened:

On the first attempt, when I went to clean the display drivers, I pressed CLEAN and nothing seemed to happen. There was no status bar appear or anything, but I clicked CLEAN a few times and had to assume that it performed it's job.
When I restarted it didn't say "new hardware found" my screen resolution was one setting below how I have it, but other than that everything looked normal. I ran the game and still got ACCESS VIOLATION.

So I tried it all again today. This time, I not only removed the display drivers from Add/REMOVE programs, I also uninstalled them from Device Manager. When I went to press CLEAN, there was a pause for 2 or 3 seconds but again no progress bar or anything so I assume this is normal.

I rebooted and it did say "found new hardware" but it then went ahead and installed the hardware itself, there were no messages, the symbol simply disappeared from the bottom right. But I installed the Display Drivers with the executable anyway and restarted, but I am still getting the same message when I try to log into the game.

The next problem is that I cannot give you a make/model of the computer I am using as it is one that was built for our company. (I live in South America and computers are of course very expensive, so many companys elect to have them built to spec because it is cheaper)

If it helps at all, when I was in Driver Sweeper, it showed ATI Display at the top of the list, but near the bottom it said "NVIDIA Display". The Display drivers for this computer have always been the S3 ProSavage DDR so I'm wondering if that is what it is supposed to be or not. Short of opening the computer up and physically looking, I cannot tell you more about the graphics card than that.
If you can recommend something that will help you diagnose the problem then I'd be happy to do whatever is necessary.

On a seperate note, the company is buying a new server in the next two weeks which will free up a new computer for me, its also a built to spec pc but it's running Windows 7 with 4Gb RAM and perhaps a fresh install on that machine will allow me access to the game again.

UPDATE: The DeviceCreation.log has some error messages in it. Perhaps this can help you. I will put the video settings log in as well:
