I tried deleting that txt file, reinstalled alleg. I put some of those artwork files, but none works. Deleted that other think under artwork. But I still can't log on, it just opens up black screens and closes back down. I got no customization

The first thing the Helpline staff will say is Read the Read Me, and fill out the template therein.
Help them to help you etc.
Sounds a bit graphicsy to me, so what gfx card you have may be useful, but whadddo I know? (Fill out the whole template so they know would be best though).

Have you make sure that you deleted the Allegiance folder completely before reinstalling Allegiance?Sharpshooter wrote:QUOTE (Sharpshooter @ Nov 17 2009, 11:08 PM) I tried deleting that txt file, reinstalled alleg.
The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

You Fail.
It may still be graphics? As the new R5 client uses a more up to date graphics engine than the older Alleg.
Suppose you could try getting the latest drivers for your Gfx card. possibly found here?

I wouldn't be too sure about this - I thought I had the latest DirectX too when I was testing R5 before deploying it.Sharpshooter wrote:QUOTE (Sharpshooter @ Nov 17 2009, 07:09 PM) Already have most updated direct x
Then I found out that Microsoft abandoned any attempt at logic when updating DirectX over the last few years.
The latest version is 9.0c, and that version number hasn't changed in years despite the numerous patches that have been released. This means that one person's 9.0c may be newer than another person's 9.0c.
... you'd think they would have incremented the version number, or at least that letter!
Anyways.
Even if you believe you have the latest DirectX, I recommend you download the DirectX installer from Microsoft and run it.
It can't hurt! (er, at least it shouldn't
