I've never even tried playing with mouse and keyboard v. joystick and keyboard.

Suggestions? I'll have to go back to the default mapping for a bit...obviously, I'll save my joystick keymap just in case.

QFT could stand for Quite $#@!ing True anyway. *shrug* (I always hated quoted for truth... doesn't make that much sense...)
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

Mouse is fine for me.

If you have all those little clues for knowing your vector and the enemies' down it should be a rather small adjustment period. What I do suggest is you get a new comfortable keyboard mapping FAST.

Besides, miners don't sidethrust away from your mini/gat fire.

A good adjustable joystick with well mapped controls or (at least decent) mouse. Either one works. A mediocre joystick is awful, while I believe a mediocre mouse works quite acceptably.

The main difference between joystick and mouse is the way the deadzone works. If you let go of the joystick it will (hopefully, unless you broke it) return to center meaning you're no longer turning, but if you let go of the mouse you'll keep turning. I used to know how to fly with a joystick but since I've been using a mouse in alleg so long I can't switch back because I don't have the patience to re-train my brain on how to visualize movement.

So get ready to have a major paradigm shift.

PsycH got me into using a trackball mouse and it works better than a mouse and joystick since you don't have to keep moving your entire arm. Since it's a USB I can plug and go; extremely portable, do the same stuff with a joystick just easier.

I've had this one for about four and a half years now and it works great.

My fav thing about the trackball (was my mouse beta days) was that you could just spin it super quickly with basically the snap of your finger tips. Was really ideal for turreting when targets were zooming from your front to your back.

Re: thread I kind of actually want to do the opposite. I think it'd be pretty fun. Still have my old sidewinder pro. I figure it would just take forever to get used to it again though, so a similar concern.. I think it was either AZ allegiance or mechwarrior 2 the last time it got any use.
