3rd Vista box I've tried Alleg on and 3rd time it's not connecting to lobby. Maybe someone has an idea on what to do:
Windows Version (and Service Packs): Vista Home Premium
Processor Speed: 2.0GHz
RAM: 2GB
Video Card (Make and Model#): NVidia Geforce 9300M GS
Sound Card (Make and Model#): Inbuilt Motherboard
Connection Type (Dialup, Cable, DSL, other): ADSL2+
Modem (Make and Model#): N/A
Router (Make and Model#): Belkin F5D9630
Internet Service Provider(company name): TalkTalk
Location(State/Province/Locality, and Country): Shropshire, UK
Installed Mods: None
Make and Version of firewall: Router's Inbuilt Firewall
Make and version of anti-virus: Avast 4.8
Confirm that you have the following installed:
* .Net 2.0 [Y]
Problem Encountered at Step #: 10 - Try to join server
Which Program (ASGS/Allegiance): Alleg
What Error Message: "Failed to Connect to Server"
Comments (What you tried, description, etc):
Tried the usual things:
Turn off AV and restart (why is Alleg so allergic to AVs anyway?)
Port forward on router (including port 80 just for completeness)
Turn off router firewall
Run in XP Compatibility mode
Add Windows Firewall exception (even if it's turned off)
Even went so far as to break out Wireshark to see what was going on packetwise - when hitting "join server", Alleg sends a couple of UDP packages to an ip address that Google claims is an Alleg server, and the server sends a couple back - on the default port 2302. So if at least some packets are getting through, then where is my problem?
Failed to Connect to Server
Have you got Avast's firewall addon? That doesn't like Allegiance and blocks it, if you want to really test to be sure if you uninstall avast and reboot and if Allegiance works then thats the problem which is what I think it is. So basically try and get rid of Avast's firewall thingy (I think its called Protect Shield?) and you should hopefully be able to play Alleg
Also on your router make sure ports 2300-2400 are not being blocked (they do not need to be forwarded)

Having uninstalled Avast and restarted, I'm just going to shrug and say "what do you know!". Afaik I didn't have the firewall, but who knows within all it's "modules" (although I do certainly prefer Avast to most other AVs). Do you happen to have any advice on an alleg-friendly AV?
Now hopefully I won't be back here in an hour moaning "Alleg broked cos Vista is evils
"...
Edit: Nope, Vista seems to be playing along. A tad laggy, but considering how crap my connection has been recently (read: it's been as bad as a DC every 10 minutes), Alleg did pretty well to stay ingame!
