I've been stat-hounding the past week or so, but have noticed over the past few days that there hasn't really been a change in my drone kills/comm win/loses when I've been working on these things pretty intensely over the past few.
Somebody mentioned that the stat recording software (TAG?) was unlinked or something of the sorts to the Planet server, but is fine for GPZ.
Can somebody explain this to me please? Are these stats stockpiled somewhere, and will suddenly clump everything into the leaderboard once it reactivates, or are they pretty much kaput?
Curiously yours,
djrbk.
TAG unlinked to Planet?
From what I understand:
TAG (Tigereye's Allegiance Gizmo) records the stats after a game ends and sends that information off to the ASGS database. When you see HQ on all chat saying "Game #88312 has completed" that means that game's data has been properly sent.
If TAG isn't running, then that data is never sent. So if TAG is not running on Planet or any other server, your games on that server won't count towards your leaderboard stats. I also believe that there isn't a way to recover those stats either, so if TAG's been down on planet for a few days (I think it has) then any games you've played there won't affect your rank or stats.

TAG is meant to be run as a service. Aarm refuses to run it as a service. Due to the fact that he's not around to restart it, TAG is frequently down on Planet.

For those who don't know, why is it run as a service on GPZ but not Planet?

Ok, sorry I'm not a networking / server guy, just wanted to know if there was a reason running it as a service is detrimental, or reason for the refusal to... otherwise don't understand why it wouldn't be run since the others servers do.

out of curiosity, what do you mean by run it as a service?Andon wrote:QUOTE (Andon @ Mar 13 2009, 09:27 PM) TB just explained it.
Aarm doesn't run it as a service, even though it should be run as one.
GPZ (And I assume 3FL) run it as a service because that's how it's supposed to run
Also, when planet went down, i looked at average ping at 10:00-ish gmt on 2 separate days, then looked at the ping on planet at the same time. GPZ had a better average ping by 40-60m. Someone else has surely done this before, but i just thought id mention it =]

a Windows service is a long-running executable that performs specific functions and which is designed not to require user intervention. They often runs quietly in the background.
To see them in Windows:
Start -> Run -> MMC -> [ok]
In "console" -> File -> Add / Remove snap in -> [add] -> In "Add Standalone Snap in" search and highlight "services" -> [add] -> select "local computer" -> [finish] -> [close] -> [ok]
In "console" left pane window "Console Root\Services local" expand "Services (local)".
There you can see all services and their status. You can also seriously screw up windows by modifying them.
When you close Console you might opt for not saving the file.
It should look similar like this example
