Joining a squad would probably help. You could also try asking one of the more patient vets if they'd do a mini training session with you.

Think about how your opponents are podding you. Do something about it. No answers come down from the sky.

People just take stuff too seriously I think. Except IB, of course.

You've been here 2 months. Just keep playing, it will be a looong time until it 'clicks'. Just concentrate on whats going on during the game... don't worry about dogfighting for now.

Sidethrust.

Learn basic sidethrusting techniques, such as the 'circle' and 'wave'.

Watch where your bullets are going.

Practice practice practice.

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight (or, don't bring a enh fig to a heavy int fight).

madpeople's how to be good in combat: (short version)

QUOTE shoot the enemy.

do not let the enemy shoot you.
everything else comes from that. you just need to think, CONSTANTLY. if you are not hitting the enemy, think why not and do something about it, if they are hitting you, think what you can do to stop them doing so. analyse every fight afterwards, analyse them before entering combat. pick where you fight where possible (thinking how to allow you to shoot them without your self getting shot), take every opportunity to improve your self - when killing a probe, fly at it so you pass it at an angle, at the last second turn to shoot it so you only have a second to turn and aim before you go out of range again.

i should probably addQUOTE think
at the top of the above list and QUOTE know when not to shoot the enemy
at the bottom of the above list.

One way i have learned to stay alive longer is stay ina group, just like in a flight sim, there's safety in numbers, accept or decline orders as they come in, never try to attack a capital ship (trust me on that one)
The election is over, can I see the news now?
Or do I hear about the election for 4 years?

I am a mediocre dog fighter (after years of playing) so I
-tend to fly a scout more often than a fighter or int or turret
-as a scout I scout /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> , nan, and prox camp alephs
-fight in a group, pair up (or triple up) on a miner raid or miner defense, don't go one on one (until you know you can hold your own)
-don't over boost
-use the 'green' aiming redicule as a rough guide, you need to WATCH your shots and see if they are actually hitting or not
-lead your target
-side thrust and turn, don't go head on

Having a high lag connection will likely make it harder to dog fight as well. A lot of my playing style I attribute to years of being stuck on dail up or other high lag connections. Don't think because you cannot dog fight well you cannot make a large positive contribution to the game. Following your constructors early on with a scout armed with a nan so it survives is extremely important so is probing enemy sectors or sectors adjacent to your bases so there are no 'nasty' surprises in the form of an enemy bomb run.
