ImmZ and I were talking about Ye Olden Dayz on TS among other things (it was funny, we went from politics and economics with Noble, then noob bashing, then more noob bashing, to ranking systems, to noob bashing AGAIN, to the squad tourney, and then to how we smashed a bunch of nubs with Dreg Sup, and finally to the AZ), and couldn't agree on who would win.

The old players who played on the AZ when it cost money (think Jihad all stars and other dudes) or a line up of the best of our current generation.

For example:

Jihad at it's peak vs All-Stars

All-Stars Roster:
Shizzy
El Weedo
aarmus
Culmy
Mallow <--(Scout whore)
Noir <--(" ")
Etc.
Basically take the best from the mercs and the squads and form an all-star team/squad.

Note that this is not just the best WHORES. This is a squad game esque matchup. Also if they played on the old Alleg, but still play today, they are included in the Modern All-Stars.

Post results below!

The modern ones would win unless the old foos had some serious time to practice /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

So anyone that played on AZ and has since quit, verse the best of today? It would be interesting, obviously we would have to play on AZ core, preferable an older one pre Rix. You new guys would get owned without uber IC, you wouldn't know how to click buy interceptors.

Well, it'd be a core halfway inbetween old and new, like GoD2 or PC2 or something.

No no, TA/everyone.

Think of it like this.

A time machine pops up and we send in our best against a at-their-prime Jihaad in an SG.

Assuming a neutral core, who wins?

Lemme put it this way: Old Vets Squad vs New Vets Squad.

Assuming neutral core so it's only skill based, new vets.

Dude, were you even around back then?

Oh wait, you'd be on the new vet team. Bias! Cheating! Shennaningans!!! /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Well, I wouldn't put myself on the team in the first place /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

I said it on IRC a couple of times but I'll repeat it here. I think people are over attributing the old vet's skill when it was really the lack of their own skill. When we are new at the game, the current vets seem like gods. Because those players were never seen after M$ dropped the game, the feelings towards those players never diminished. The new players got better, but never saw their skills improve in relation to the old vets. So now we have some excellent players who still consider the old vets to be gods when in reality they are probably just as good if not better than the old vets /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The old vets may have played far more SGs than we do now, but they don't have the YEARS experience that some of the new vets have.

TB

P.S. New vet = vet today, not vet that is new to the game /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

P.P.S - Since this is a fantasy game, I'm assuming that if someone were to fall under both categories (New and old vet) they would play on both teams, skill level appropriate to their team. New vet would have the skills he does TODAY, old vet would have the skills he had back in the F/AZ.
