A late night conversation.

Countermeasures have a specified hitpoint value and a signature value in ICE.

Conclusion: Countermeasures are shootable by at least Area of Effect Part damaging weapons in the same vein as mines are shootable, in this case, we're assuming that EMP cannon works.

Assuming this can be used in some situation, what would the details of that situation be?

You are in an int loaded with 3 EMP cannons and you just used a regular TT to capture the enemy base. After capturing the base Noir pops out of the red door and you KNOW if you don't kill him he's going to probe all your sectors. Your team has a destroyer sitting 4k out loaded with a single Hunter-Killer and your worried about Noir chaffing that Hunter-Killer with his Countermeasure 3. Being the astute pilot that you are, after confirming the hunter-killer situation with the destroyer over teamspeak, you quickly realize that the hunter-killer that the destroyer launches MUST hit, since you cannot kill Noir using EMP cannons. Ramming is simply out of the question because ramming Noir is like trying grab a hold of a fat guy who has just finished eating a 9 layer butter sandwich and is now covered with lipid goodness; Noir is just way too slippering. There is but one solution. SHOOT THE F@#$ING COUNTERMEASURES!

Shooting the Countermeasures: Noir Dies
Not Shooting the Countermeasures: Noir Lives

Final Conclusion: Shooting countermeasure's will pod Noir!

Discuss.

I'm not sure that the missile would retarget after changing to the countermeasure.

Wouldn't that be moot since a countermeasure, once breaks lock, it stays broken and the missile doesn't re-acquire it's target? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Although CM's are cheese, especially since you can't CM away minigun fire /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

A countermeasure's primary method is to spoof a missile when deployed, at which point various values are compared and any and all missiles tracking you have a chance to be spoofed. Shooting the CM will do no good for missiles spoofed. They do not reacquire.

Countermeasures can and do have a model, hitbox, and hp. If a missile happens to hit the CM (above and behind the ship, starts small and expands slightly over its lifetime) it will detonate. Shooting the CM would potentially help, if it's on your vampire vector.

Best hypothetical ever. I love it.

But in this situation still propbably useless as if the hunter-killer is spoofed by the time it would have hit the CM anyway the CM would have gone past its lifetime and have been destroyed by natural causes thus rendering the shooting of CM pretty useless.
