Hey All,

I've been playing for about 7 days now and got moved to Intermediate 1 last night. Upon logging in, I received a message stating that since I'm now inter, I will be banned for playing on Newbie servers.

I must admit, I feel like a newb, act like a newb, and likely play like one too, and would still benefit from the newb servers. Specifically, commanding. I commanded 2 games on the newbie server, I learned a lot about the game by doing so, and I don't feel there is a better place to do it. Not to mention the respect I earned for what it takes to do so...

1. I can command without a huge expectation from anyone on the server
2. Being a newb myself, I can pass along anything I've learned to the "newer" newbs
3. I can take plenty of time to explore the tech tree without much sacrifice to the gameplay.

I realize I could start my own session, but let's be realistic, I wouldn't be able to accomplish any of the 3 items listed above. Being new, I feel as follows... You start out on the newb zone, command a game or two, grab a fighter or a scout, put around and get a feel for the game. Then all of a sudden poof, you're intermediate. Not much to do other than going a main server game and follow along, without much chance to command without severe bashing, expectation or nagging. Then your a vet, where there is somewhat of an expectation that if you were to comm... you could, but likely can't, hence there aren't many commanders out there in general.

In a nutshell, I realize not everyone *wants* to comm, but if you did, what would you do during this middle era to accomplish climbing the ladder? Thoughts? Is the intermediate restriction a bit though in your opinion?

Much of this came from the fact that I grabbed a bomber 2 days ago in a Main server game, I exiting the base, hit F3 to take a peek at the surroundings, and within 15 seconds I received "holy &%*# who gave the newb the bbr, and poof I was booted from the server. Nice attitude... I mean, I only had 9 base kills the game before?! So, forget commanding, apparently, I can't comm or bomb on a main game, and I can't play on a newb server either. I think an Intermediate only server is going too far. All this in 30 hours of game play!? There is quite a blend of those willing to help/support newbs, and there is also quite a few folks who can't wait to make comments like "i'm so tired of newbs ". Unfortunetly the latter sticks with you more in terms of opinion. I'd recommend this game to anyone who can "Take the beats and still enjoy themselves" to be honest.

Actually the newb server requirement just got lowered to (4). Trial by fire baby.

Huge tip to you. Don't comm, learn to pilot well, and dont' buy any ship that costs money as you will unfortunately piss people off. Nothing like game winning money being thrown away to a newbie who doesn't know how to bomb and destroy the teams chances. THis is nothing that the newb server can help you with, and only by playing the main server you will learn these things to eventually bomb well and hopefully comm someday. Hell, I've been here a year and I hesitate the comm. It's not as easy as you think, and is quite hard to do so effectively. Not to mention it's easy to piss people off if you even if you understand 70% of it. It's not like playing Starcraft. You will get your ass handed to you on a silver platter (this includes myself).

Newb servers are only for getting used to the controls. It's a steep learning curve but well worth the effort if you have the patience to stick around.

Look into the Cadet program too. They will get you up to speed right quick.

The newbie servers are there to allow newbies to figure out how to point their ship in the right direction and shoot things. Trust me, staying on the main game for two games will teach you a lot more than staying on the newbie server for two months

You're doing ok, don't let the occasional boot get you down. Some comms are just asshats about it anyways. A good com would have told you to dock the bomber. A bad comm , imo, would just boot you. Just get a hider, join the other team and harass his miners. Half this game is learning how to play in this community, not just piloting or comm'ing. And both learning curves are pretty steep.

Van, this community does a LOT to help new players get their feet wet and learn the game. Try following the prescribed path (take CDT1 and CDT2) and trust me, everything will make sense. If you stay in the game, playing fairly regularly (2-3 hours a week), you'll get proficient in a couple of months if you pay attention, ask questions (learn WHEN to ask too), and DON'T play on the newbie server. You can buy stealth bombers all you want on the newbie server, but do you know how to organize a good sb run? How many ab1s does it take to blow a tele? How do you HUNT for stealth bombers (sbs). What is a hvy int and why do you want one? These are all questions learned from seeing how these items are used and not just by buying them on the newbie servers. The Cadet programs will help you answer many of these questions, but experience will do much much more for you.

If you see me in game, just ask and I'll answer if I can. If I'm in the middle of something (oh . .a nice bios hvy bbr run with clk2 and no turrets, being pushed by a solo hvy int to sneak up and blow an op against other mini3 hvy ints), know that I'll not be able to talk right then .. .but as soon as I can, I'll answer.

That is my FAVORITE move btw . .too bad I can't get anyone to push my bbr. .drat.

More like not anyone wants to comm.

If you want to command, you can simply create your own server, invite newbs, vets, and do what you like within the RoC. But the newbie server is for newbies, it exists so that they can learn the interface and try some stuff out, and then join the rest of us.
