In a very nice game a few hours ago I got a very nice compliment. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the person and didn't log the game :/
At least I took it as a compliment. We were flying Dregs against... uh, propably belters. The enemy had good interceptors and we had advanced fighters, and for once it was working. We had tele's everywhere, and could respond to bomber attacks quickly and effisciently.
Anyway, after an enemy run had just been blunted I had a nice small duel with a member of the @PK. He had a slightly damaged heavy int, and I had a fresh advanced fighter, with maxed out gun tech on both sides, I think (and I may have had a galv mounted). We pounded each other to death with both ships disintegrating at the same moment.
Here's the compliment. I sent some exhilarated private message to my worthy foe's pod on my way to the home station, and he/she responded with "Who are you", and when I said I'm just me, I got an "Adept is a hider" reply.
If I got this right, and a squadded vet thought I was another vet under a false name, I'm very happy indeed. I haven't played been able to play since early 2001, and I only got to play for a few months in the MS days, even if I did love Allegiance dearly.
So thank you, dear adversary. This really made my day /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

PS. There's been good games in the last few days othervice too. A great 2h game late in the night (from my perspective, here in Finland) that only ended by our 45min project of sneaking three stealth bombers into a heavily defended and probed center sector. I've only gotten to do that twice so far, but it's a great example of how Allegiance is a team game and actually rewards patience and planning.

Please don't tell me you were dogfighting in a fig.
Please fly figs differently than ints.
Lemme explain some.
Figs have some advantages over ints that are quite underused. -Range- -Minepacks- -Missiles-
Do's
Keep your range when you can, use jousting style techniques if needed, if the int boosts at you, drop mine packs, lob missiles, then last minute boost Straight at him missing by inches and boost away, vector lock for a second and turn to face him. Use side thrust to angle yourself again while dropping vector lock and rear thrust to incease the time it takes for him to close again. Drop prox and missiles again, your guns are to finish him later, not start damadging him. Your shields can take small spurts of dmg and then rechage in the interum. Time your reloads correctly, especially on booster fuel. Reload fuel when you turn to engage him after boosting away when he is FAR away. Keep using rear thrust, as said to delay him from closing, if he is dumb and rides his mini guns the whole time he will reload at a bad time, that this advantage to finish him off, always watch for your enemy's reloads.
Don'ts
Don't boost to close the distance between you and him. Don't engage in circle strafing style DM with an int. Don't shoot at extreme distances shoot when you know your going to hit, try not to waste ammo, make him waste his. Don't approach an int from the business end if at all possible, if you dont know that is the front side with all the nasty mini guns. If he is camping a tele, go from another sector, come from behind, they are quite blind, and plug him with dumbs while he sits and camps. Seeker 3's are great too with missile GA's.
Figs and ints often get lumped together, but if you learn to fly them differently, you all the better for it.

Aw...
I don't think I deserve that since I only have something like three months of gametime all together. Doesn't that still make me more of a newb? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Let's hope cadet fixes those things that make me look like a voob to you. Here's hoping.

I just want to point out here really fast that many comms DON'T BUY FRIGGEN MINEPACKS! AND THEY SHOULD! BUY MINEPACKS! NOW!
this is a public survice message bought to you by disgruntled pilots INC (DPI)
P.S on a more serious note, listen to Void, he is much smarter than all you whores and voobs!

Good tips, but known to me. I know how to fly and fight. Parhaps I used a wrong term. I used the fighters advantages as much as I could, except for using the quick rip to our tele to get more distance.
Look. This was a fight for the sheer joy of it. Taking on a int in a fighter at close range (starting at around 1300) is risky, but I could affoard it since we were fighting next to our station. It knew I was fighting with a disadvantage, but that just made it more exciting. I wasn't wasting time for our team either, since the int could have gone after our miners othervice.

I may have given a slightly dim impression in the last weeks (not noticing stuff on the chat or minimap) since I've been suffering from a nasty flue with fever. I hope I haven't tarnished my name too badly. I'm starting to feel I'm regaining my touch with this game.

Ah /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> I recently saw a much less flattering definition. The above sounds about right, except I eat true newbs for breakfast. The definition I saw earlier was something like "has played for a long time, but refuses or is unable to learn". Something like that.
I've been reading the academy and the cadet I files. The game has been refined and polished a lot over the years. It's really great, but indeed I'm still a bit unclear on the differences between minepacks and regular mines, for instance. Especially when I have to load up in a hurry.
Give me a month and let's see about it then /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Ugg. No.
Voob = not quite noob, not quite vet. The middle ground where you don't really want to insult by saying noob/newb, but you don't want to praise by saying vet. Past time in the community has no bearing on voob status.
