I rather like the balance in Dark Nebulae, at least when we are talking about IC / Belts / Giga / Bios, and I suppose Rix and Dreg are ok. I hate playing Technoflux, on either side. They are just too strange and no fun at all for me. Phoenix also moves too far, for me in look and feel.

I've been looking into the core debates. Good old Days seems nice in consept, but I don't see it played so I have no idea how well it's actually balanced.

Am I completely in the minority here? At the moment I've decided to just pick and choose the pickup games.

As a side note I find the "boy's locker room" chatter a bit distasteful. Some people out there seem very immature. I know you guys aren't 14 years old in general, so why is it like being forced to listen to cheesy hiphop lyrics on occasion? I'm a 30+ year old bloke and I love the ladies. If it makes me unfortable*, just imagine how much "fun" it's for the women playing our great game.

*more like very tired of hearing the same *beep* machismo every time I log on to play. Get a girlfriend and grow up guys.

Uh, sorry if I'm ruffling some feathers here. That's not the intention. I may be having a bad day, with my flue, but I'm also working on an article about Allegiance, and that makes me analytical. Better to try to clarify some things now than be pissed about them when I finalise my article.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Did I just stir a hornets nest I shouldn't have?

If I did, feel free to delete this thread admins. I prefer the look and feel of the original human factions, but perhaps most Allegiance players like the additions. I don't know, that's a big part of the reason for starting the thread. (Dreg seems ok too in play)

Hmm.... parhaps I should have made a poll about the factions popularity?

Allegiance is about variety, the new factions have a bit more of it and the older ones have been played alot.

I typically play the older factions, that is what I lived, ate and breathed in the years before I came back and I like the traditional feel.

As for the boys locker room thing . . . well that's alot of online games unfortunately. Percentage wise too I think you will find the women folk dish it out quite a bit as well. Equality!!

Just filter alot of it out in your mind and kinda laugh at the kiddies when they throw their fits.

I agree with Adept. He speaks truth. I like DN generally. When I see techno I am displeased. When I see phoenix I run and hide.
