Ok, i downloaded the server hosting program from the homepage, ran it, everything looked fine. then i opened up allegiance, logged in, and hit the join free lan game button. it searched for a server for a moment, then the game closed out and logged me off. what did i do wrong?

The current version of Allegiance doesn't work with a LAN server. However, the beta does (But oyu have to get the latest server download from the Dev team along with the Beta)

In order to host a public server, you have to meet a certain amount of requirements. Private Message Tigereye if you're seriously interested.

well im not exactly serious about it. i am more interested in hosting a server, passwording it, and playing with my friend who is also starting out, so that i can learn more aspects of the game and the different functions of different ships. As i look around the free server list i notices that newbie only servers are next to nonexistant, which is why i am wanting to start my own server for myself to play on, which was originally why i wanted to use LAN.

Both of you log on to an empty server, lock the lobby, no one else can join.

Here are the requirements for hosting a public server:It must be running the current, unmodified server. No customized servers are allowed. That being said, you are welcome to host custom cores and custom maps on your stock server. It must be running on a static IP address. Dynamic IPs are unsupportedIt should be a "dedicated" server that is regularly available. Revolving door servers would annoy people as they wonder why the server is not there sometimesIt should be hosted on a connection that has enough bandwidth to support a large game. Hosting a server from home is not a good ideaASGS cannot run on the server machine. The server machine cannot be used to play Allegiance. It's also recommended that the IP address is not shared with other computers that are used to play Allegiance. If possible, the IP address of the server should never be shared with any machines that are used to play Allegiance.I think that about covers it.
In order for any server to join the public lobby, I have to clear the IP address/etc to allow it to connect. Otherwise the server will not appear in the lobby.
