Hi guys,
I've only been playing this game for a weekend and I'm very impressed with the gameplay, complexity, and overall fun. The last time I did anything like this was to play Apache Longbow multiplayer over a lan. This is even better.
Anyways, despite having said that, my biggest gripe is the color of the ship docks on the OPs and such. For most people it's not a problem, but if you're somewhat color blind like me, I have a hard time discerning between red and green. From a distance, I get them confused all the time and waste precious minutes finding the proper end. /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="doh.gif" />
Is there any way you can change this? Maybe change the Green to Yellow or something? At least make the green brighter. When some of the landings have some shadows going on, I have a real hard time trying to tell if a red is actually green. Sometimes they do show up really bright that I can tell right away, but at least once a game I'll bang into the OP exit. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
Thanks.
Ship landings and the Color Blind
Welcome.
We do have a group of partially colorblind members who have been trying to get these problems fixed, however I don't know what the current state is.
Best advice will probably be to get in a habit of quickly flipping on autopilot just to get a sense of direction.

dirty workaround: press b to target the base, then p and autopilot will point you in the general direction of the red door. Autopilot takes forever to dock, but once you see where its heading you can do the rest yourself.
We've had a couple complaints against this, what colors can you see? Can you tell yellow or orange from green?

I'm ok with orange vs. green. Brown vs. Red and dark greens vs. dark reds I have problems with. For me, red vs. green isn't so bad, but the problem is that when they're dark I get them confused I guess. I think this is supposed to be the majority probably for those colorblind.Adaven wrote:QUOTE (Adaven @ Apr 16 2007, 02:24 PM) We've had a couple complaints against this, what colors can you see? I know about B-P. The other thing I do is I look for other pods/ships trying to land and watch which landing ships leave out of. But when there's nobody around and I'm trying to save a base, that's when I bang into it in a panic.

Ada meant it would point you in the general direction of the green door /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
BTW. telling the green from the red door on certain shipyards is quite problematic even for people with normal seeing.

Yes I know. I use BP to find the door when the door isn't in LOS. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />DreamWalker wrote:QUOTE (DreamWalker @ Apr 16 2007, 02:31 PM) Ada meant it would point you in the general direction of the green door /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hrm, I assumed that only the colorblind had this problem. Sounds like a good fix to me. I'm surprised it that hard to patch. Anyhoo...

yeah, it probably isn't, but I don't know much if anything about it /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I like how this thread is becoming more of a chat room with quick replies. woo hoo
Anyways, I know some guys have been working on new/high res base models, so I believe this could change could be implemented.
Well, it would probably be wise to let the people who know about these kind of things speak to those matter instead of me posting but I just can't resist making this thread ultra fast /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
I hope someone can fix it for you as it would be really darn shame if we couldn't help you with that.

P.s. woot... still Shiz made it to post before me, what a trigger happy guy

Yeah I dunno. Typically they're texturemapped and so the color is in the map for the bases (you would have the change all of them). So Shiz, I think they're actually kinda close about this fix. Like I said, it seems like it would be a simple task but there are always other considerations to provide a patch. If you're saying that they're going to upgrade the rendering, then I can see them skipping this idea until the whole kit-and-caboodle is ready to go otherwise it can be a headache providing patches. I'm in the software biz, just not games so I have an idea what they might be up against.
Stations generally have 2-3 texture files associated with them. 1 for the bulk exterior, and another for the doors+inside of hanagars. It might also be necessary to change the carriers too. the real problem is going to come from in game lighting though, as weird colored shadows can mess things up, but we can probably make things a little better on average.
It really isn't a big change, maybe only a dozen or so files total, and you'd just have to edit a little part.
Which of these looks better?

the left 1/5 is supposed to be a different color from the rest.
