Pls help me clear up something...

When I go into the inventory screen and look at available ships, I seem to recall that sometimes I actually have to have money to pay for the ships weapons and the ship befoe launching.

And sometimes, it is all free...

Finally - whenever I launch a ship or change loadout or whatever, does the commander have to click on an "approve" button?

thanks

Some ships cost money, some does not. If you don't have money, and press the buy button, the commander will get a request asking for the money. If he approves the request you will get the money and can buy the ship.

If you have the money you can spend it on any ship you want. The commander does not have to approve, unless you need more money to buy the ship.

I'm sure there's a fair amount of commanders that wish there would be such a button, but alas...

When you select a ship or a loadout that costs money and click on buy (and the button is not blue, which it is if there's not enough money in the team to buy, or you've alerady bought it) a request for money is sent to *any* player having enough money to pay for your ship.

Bombers and such cost money obviously; but a few ships, like the gunship, has a price of one credit, just to allow the commander some say in who goes out with it and when. Teleport probes, some more esoteric missiles, rescue pods and such all cost money, so you migh think you're on a free ship, but infact are not.

Edit: Doh!

Certain ships like bombers, gunships, luxury ships, and parts like rescue probes, teleport probes, aleph resonators, etc., cost some credits.

To use one of these, you click the "Buy ship" button, and if you haven't got already the credits (this is the usual case) (fixed: any player with the cash) is alerted that a buy has been requested. He will then approve or reject it (pressing the yes/no buttons).

Because of their cost, these ships are usually only granted to players with experience (but in small games or in special events, like a teleport probe drop, when the team needs many bombers at once). Things that the commander will allow you more often to buy are rescue probes (one at once) and gunships.

RP's are meant to be dropped in useful places i.e. in further sectors, and where they can't be easily discovered. You need to be careful to don't drop them when you wanted to drop a regular probe instead. Check F4 to see which one is ready to be dropped (at cargo slot 0). You can cycle the drop cargo slot with a key; mine is customized, you can check/change yours at the main menu -Esc, Game Options, Map Keys and Controls-.

Gunships cost 1 credit so the commander can control when they are used and when not, because they can drag other players as turrets and because there may be better ships available. But in the heat of the battle, if the commander is allowing gunships, you'll quite often get one when you request it.

Mobyfafa please dont take this the wrong way as I like your attitude and enthusiasm, I have noticed you have asked a lot of questions recently about details to certain aspects of the game. Have you not read the Allegiance Academy website? That is what all cadets learn their "technical" information from. It will give you the answer to nearly every question you could think of asking.
If you have not read it I would suggest doing so and signing up for cadet program as well. Again please dont take this as me having a go it is merely a suggestion on how to better your inquisitive minds knowledge of the game.

I noticed an odd analogy

Forums => Online multiplayer
Academy => Single player

As the game dev's always said, its generally more fun when interacting with real people.

hi sp4wn

yup ive read a lot of the academy website. its cool but it doesnt anaswer a lot of obscure not so clear stuff :-

1) acronyms - i was reading accounts of battles like here :-
http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index...showtopic=29960
abd i cant work out all the acronyms

2) academy didnt explain about buying ships much

and some other stuff..

i'm still trying to find a philosophy for me to play this game without just going in and shooting things up so chatting online is fun in the meanwhile to learn stuff.

um - too shy for cadets im not a social person sry.. but its a great programme.!

But in the mean time, try this link: Lessons ; abbreviations and if that is not indepth enough, let me know what you would suggest we add :-}
