Greetings!
I have been absent for some time. My superiors have assigned me on a permanent basis to this system. The surgery went well and I am adapting to my new arm. Amazing what those Bios engineers can do. Hard to believe Emmet Longstreet’s ALEXANDER project has evolved to total cloning of replacement parts. A special “thank you” goes to Agricola for supplying the high end genetic material from his sheep operation on Luna.
Much has changed since Earths destruction in 2150. We now are seeing new pilots who are 2nd and 3rd generation space born. So much history has been lost and forgotten in the last 7 years I have decided to try to bring some understanding to our newer pilots and recruits of our history and traditions.
I have signed a contract with the administrator of the Academy to act as a repository for historical documents and to maintain all of the DataNet postings. As mankind expands throughout the galaxy it has become harder to keep track of events elsewhere. So I have been assigned by The DataNet to concentrate on events here within our area of operation.
The Academy is now posting records of the Major DataNet transmissions. Some of my earlier postings will be included there. I am hoping to continue recording our history and events. I have been authorized with a small contingency fund to hire assistants in the future. Details to be announced in future transmissions.
I spent an eventful evening renewing old friendships and contacts at Pook’s Bar & Grill last night. Sad to see Adriana doesn’t bartend anymore. Hopefully she will show up once in awhile. Rumors of her bondage in Pook’s orbiting station still abound.
I will try to stick to my old schedule of visiting Pook’s place on Mondays and Solap’s Bar & Grill on Thursdays. You are welcome to drop in and buy me a drink of Rixian Ale and bend my ear.
Our community of Squadrons and Mercenaries still survive. We are still at the whim of the Major corporations. Time has shown the constant rise and fall of the Corporations. Look at IC, once strong and dominant, now have a higher rate of failure on mining operations. Bios have risen again to the top of the statistical standings. As the corporate wars continue, we must hold true to our principles of not working for just one corporation.
The Pilots Union, Free Allegiance Org. (FAO), still has its issues. But they do their best to protect us from the heavy hand of the corporations. With the recent reactivation of the Squadrons and Pilots representatives to the advisory board, the future looks promising. It must be working because larger numbers of pilots are showing up in our sector for work. A large number are untrained, but with the efforts of Shiz at ACS, the future holds promise. We need highly trained commanders to lead pilots on missions. So the best wishes and support of our community is needed for his efforts.
I did get a chance to speak with a few of the Instructors at the Cadet Training Program. There is talk of a total rework of the program again. The potential release of most of their advanced material to all pilots sounded like a good idea to me. They are leaning to trimming the program to be more of a crash course in basic flight navigation, combat (both offensive and defensive) and common sense tactics.
The Squadrons have not changed much since my hiatus I see. XenoTech still is marching forward at a steady pace. They record of concurrent successful mining operations is quite amazing. I have heard rumors of bets being placed on how much longer they can keep that streak. (Contact Duckwarrior at Solap’s on Saturdays for placing wagers)
I heard accounts of recent strong showings by Slipshod Mining and Research. Glad to hear it. The reorganized Steel Fury has amazed several pilots with their strong showing on operations recently. It does take time to make a strong and unified squadron. Look at the WildCards. Only a little over a year in existence and they can hold their own. Black Shadow has slipped into the darkness, we can only hope for an emergence soon. So many of the squadrons show strength, if they can get their pilots out of the bar and flying.
A special tip of the helmet to the Dev Team, for developing the new communication and transport software now in use. With its release the opportunity for hiring more pilots has risen.
But what of the Mercs? Are we seeing a revisit to the Mar’s Wars of 2068? When the FML (Free Martian League) was formed by the underpaid Mercs and workers? Now with them having some say in Union activities, who knows?
Efforts by promoter JG Baxter in his first mining competition show some promise. Like all ventures, there are obstacles to overcome. I plan on being able to report results. The concept of organizing the teams based on genetic origins is somewhat unique. It seems to be working. I hope JG is making a profit on the admission fees.
I was told of efforts by Shizzy trying a similar contest with the squadrons. If he keeps Weedman from controlling the entry fees and funds, it might have a chance at success. Negotiations I am told are still in progress. But it looks like it has been given an approval in concept by the Squads.
I have about reached my bandwidth limit for this transmission. But I did want to address rumors I have heard over the last couple of days. If you have seen or can confirm any of this, please contact me.
Sightings of “Lan Drakor”, “SandTiger”, “Diablo” and other legendary pilots have reached my ears. It seems some of them are quietly sending transmissions to old friends. A lot of old pilots are resurfacing with new papers and callsigns. Rumors of some of the stronger pilots signing up for regenerative surgery and new Union cards are being whispered in hanger bays. It seems most of the squadrons are doing a lot of backdoor contract offerings. I will watch this closely and let you know what I find out.
I have been tasked by my superiors to plan on transmitting on a 15 day Lunar cycle. Hopefully I can maintain that.

Sandtiger? It would be cool to see him again.
For the record, it's ozzy's plan, not mine, I have the common sense not to start a tournament. Way too much work for way too many bitchers /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

All in all you are a very dying race // Placing trust upon a cruel world. // You never had the things you thought you should have had //
And you'll not get them now, // And all the while in perfect time // Your tears are falling on the ground. -- Squonk, Genesis
