Is there any reason we are labelling people Voob in the RC2 of FAZ.
I think some people consider it a little bit offensive, especially some people who have been playing this game for some years.
Perhaps revert back to calling it the Intermediate rank?
Voob is really quite a horrid and brash term /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I'm guessing, but it might just have been because "Intermediate" didn't fit. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
I suppose 'Inter' would may be work.
Speaking for myself, voob and noob were never bad terms when I started learning the game. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

n.b. I may not see a forum post replied to me or a pm sent to me for weeks and weeks...
You should of heard Noir's other suggestions on TS last night. Hilarious. Would you prefer 'Muppet?' /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
My meaningless number says I'm a Voob; I'll go cut my wrists now because it's such a horrid term. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

yes, they are server specific. Anyone who runs a server can specify their own rank titles.BlackViper wrote:QUOTE (BlackViper @ Aug 2 2006, 01:47 PM) Noir is the one who changed them, speak to him.

I'm not Hamlet. I don't take part any more. My words have nothing to tell me anymore.

What Y_P said. The server owner controls this file. I was a little surprised to see the name change myself, thought it was a bug at first. But, like the game names, the server owner is free to choose what they like.
Edit: I personally don't find it offensive

Well been playing the game on and off since early beta, and never had the term voob feel offensive to me in any way shape or form. I would actually like Noir to change my rank to Newblet /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> think it would be more fitting and much more entertaining.
It's only offensive if you deam it to be, but from Noir's and most of the community I don't believe that is its purpose.
Take it with a laugh and if you really have something against it, hunt down Noir relentlessly and kill his probes, he really hates that.

The only reason it's a text file on the server is because it was implemented as a shortcut. The ranks were SUPPOSED to be pulled from the ASGS server where the master list is maintained, but this was "easier".
It's simply one more example of the mentality that prevails out there: If the door to asshattery is left open, it's guaranteed that someone will walk through it. This is the same reason we had to spend (i.e. waste) the time to secure the beta lobby - people were too immature and full of themselves to simply test and instead had to show just how stupid they could be.
The question isn't "who's offended", the question is "why should anyone be offended". This is a game feature, and turning someone off by something that as far as they can tell is part of the game reflects poorly on everyone and is unnecessary.
If it's left like this I'll simply turn ranks off again.
