I do not believe you were the one who saw Orion's words.peet wrote:QUOTE (peet @ Jun 3 2011, 06:42 PM) I do not believe server load is the main issue to block HiRes images.

Why the $#@! would Orion tell me his personal server wouldn't have been able handle it? It's basic server stuff, and Orion is just as smart if not smarter than Peet, who should notice I was not talking about high-resolution textures as a whole. If someone else wants to volunteer his time and money to do it, so $#@!ing be it but until then it's woulda coulda shoulda.

It's not "woulda coulda shoulda" when he never ASKED if anybody else could help him out with the server load of letting about five hundred people download hi-res textures over the course of a couple of months.fuzz_windows wrote:QUOTE (fuzz_windows @ Jun 3 2011, 11:54 PM) Why the $#@! would Orion tell me his personal server wouldn't have been able handle it? I'm not going to jump on the *X said Y did something on Z* it's pointless imho.
I do feel very sad, knowing we had GREAT guys financing servers and bandwidth. They payed hundreds of dollars a year. I and a few other operators had basically "carte blanc" to tweak those servers and put it to good use for our gaming community hosting games.
Of course, when the statistics proved the servers were mostly "too empty" they decided to put their money to good use on other projects.
Although I have no proof, and I speak before my turn, I feel confident we could have put the "idle" hardware to good use. I think it would have been applauded by the financiers too (my guess that is). We could have set up distribution plans and protocols.

I heard my name
It's not *my* server, it's "my" VM on aarm's server, and the server is technically for CSS usage, but I got his permission for testing out Modulus.. it was never really meant to be a production server, so I didn't want to overload it or include that tool (which was pretty alpha btw, not production) in the installer.
If anyone wants to pick up where I left off, you are most most welcome to it, I'm often available to answer questions on IRC/PM.
The source code is (and always has been) right here: http://allegiancemodulus.codeplex.com/
But ideally someone else would host it, because I don't want dozens of people downloading hires textures from aarmstrong's server.

What action? Development front? How much closer?Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ May 27 2011, 09:08 PM) The MOMENT the bounty was announced there was a sudden interest in resolving the bug - which is PRECISELY what we wanted to happen.
I'll leave you all to your whining and bickering.
I'm just happy that this re-kindled interest has caused some action on the development front bringing R6 that-much-closer to release.
You realize we're down to 230 players with >10 hours. Games are now 8v8 on a GOOD day.
Hello, are you there?..
Anyone?...
[15:25] <BBT_> oh, so da vinci's mona lisa isn't his work?
[15:25] <+fuh-zz> No, he simply put effort into it.
[15:25] <BBT_> are you really that retarded?
