Yeah but when the playerbase is scattered among inactive squads when they could form one active squad means we should merge a bit :)

False dichotomy. More squad play helps more PUG play, helps more squad play. Of course if you take this chicken and egg right back I'm sure there was a pick up game before the first squad game, but that's beside the point.

New players are the lifeblood of any sport or game. Making any sort of change to appease or make happy existing players does very little for the survivability of the sport/game. Energies and $ would be best focused on getting new players.
That said, I am for the less squads idea. All though less squads will not be helping the survivability of Alleg in any manner, less squads will make Alleg slightly more fun once a week for the players that remain.

The key to keeping new players is better gameplay and more people online during primetime. The best why I see at getting more players during primetime is to bring squaded vets back to the game by having larger and more competitive squad games thus leading those squaded players to play in primetime
I know if turnoutwas better on Sunday I would most likely play more primetime games during the week

That may just be me but its worth a shot

So start contacting all those mia inactive squad mates and ask them to come and play during august and let's find out

This is simply not true. Also, since the game needs new blood, it's a great time to recruit promising newcomers and give them on the job training.

Actually that is pretty much the only way to do it since currently number are too low for running the cadet program.

Do they download allegiance only to find emtpy servers then bail thinking the game is dead?
yeah. combined with no single player. If it was me, upon seeing 0-10 players in a server at any given time I'd uninstall too.

new players need to be made aware of SQUADS and that we mostly play on the WEEKENDS, as well as that this game is rebuilding (as optimistic as that may be). As a community we suck at salesmanship. In recent years the game could sell itself. Now it will take additional information (as identified above) shoved in new players' faces. Linking new people to fwiffo's player time graph is a good idea as mentioned before. Also providing a current optimistic view of how we are making progress toward improving the game (ACSS, CC dev, etc).

EDIT: Also the inactive player list on the squad roster page is a huge turn off to new players that view that page. We should be identifying people that are ACTIVE, not those inactive for 10000 days. Provide a link to inactive squad players lists if people wish to see legacy members. It should be obvious that airing out the fact that so many people have moved on from the game is not appealing to new people.

If you're not active... you're not really in the squad, you used to be. If people come back, then by all means they should retain their tags, but the squad roster page is ridiculously overwrought with inactive players currently.

Once ACSS is up we'll be able to optimize a lot of the interface. What's there now is just the beginning.

But declining registrations is the culprit as pkk pointed. I just need to add trying to find ways to retain players is mostly futile IMHO. The 'bleeding' is pretty natural.
