If you have a spare 48 mins...this might help girlyboy feel better

I think this was a pretty good doco, but I question the effect of puberty on gender identity. Heck, even within your biological gender, hormones can change you.
Its a tough call....Im glad I dont have to make it.

What the officers did was seemingly wrong and unprofessional, but I'm not entirely sure if their side of the story was fully explained.
But if what they did was completely true, that would be inappropriate for ANY person, not just a transvestite, but in this case that term is being used to get leverage.

I've gotten bullied and harassed for things I can't change, nobody did anything, I just dealt with it.
Why should it automatically be a big deal if the person in question has a mental predisposition for being the other gender?

This bit sounds like you've been fed the line that homosexuality* is a lifestyle choice.

It is not. That is bull@#(! fed by social conservatives and religious types who are unwilling to face the facts about their own bigotry. Sexual orientation is determined by hormone levels during fetal development (inside mommy) and resulting structures in your brain.

Blaming somebody for being gay is exactly as ****ed up as blaming them for being born black / white / yellow / brown / male / female.

IT IS NOT A CHOISE! Learn this please. Look up the science yourself as a mental exercise (hint, wikipedia is an easy place to start)

*I'm not stating that anybody crossdressing is homosexual, or that transgender people are a simple case of homosexuality. What I write above still applies.

** And even if it didn't, harassing somebody because they look or act different from you is such a ***ed up way to behave that those trolls should be punished with a length of rubber hose until they learn some manners. Jesus....

I said mental predisposition.
Meaning that an individual cannot act otherwise without a great deal of discipline.

Do you think it's a "choice" that I'm an intolerable jackass know-it-all that whines and cries about everything? Heck not, but I keep on gravitating to it unless I try really hard not to.

Tell me how this is different, it has just as much to do with mental growth as gender behavior.
Some people just seem to be born more pleasant to be around, and this sometimes shows at the very earliest stages of ones life.

edit: just to make clear, I don't condone being a jackass to people for any reason unless they do something to deserve it, and race or sexual preference should hold no extra weight at all in these matters. All it does is give a minority more power over average people.

When crimes are motivated by race, gender, sexuality or religion it needs to be addressed rather than ignored.

Oh what's that DonKanarge? Suck it up? Move along?

You're right, as long as someone isn't being severely injured we really shouldn't worry about it. It's not like mild violence is a precursor to ultra violence or anything.

why should crimes motivated by race, gender, sexuality or religion be any worse than just plain crime for any reason at all?

Me being an intellectual conservative, I've thought for a while that this was the logical and most accurate reason that some people are gay. There's absolutely no excuse, then, for discriminating against someone because they're homosexual or transgendered. Granted, there wasn't one to begin with... but especially because it's a biological predetermination.

Adept, is this still developmental theory, or has it been proven by now? Last time I paid attention to it was 2008-2009ish.

It's quite well backed by evidence. Cat scans have been used to map what areas in people's brains light up when shown various pictures (that must be fun ;) ) and we can see how the brain structure of homosexual men resembles that of straight women in several key areas, and the same is true with straight men and lesbian women.

If you're interested, I can sum up some research, and try to hunt for links. It's a really fascinating subject. (I'm quite keen on evolutionary biology, and the studies about what it means for human behavior)

Short answer, yes, it's a "scientific fact" as far as that expression can ever be used, not just an interesting hypothesis.

Don't worry about digging. :D

I've seen documentary shows and stuff on it on Discovery or something, where they talked about the wrong hormones being applied in-utero, which makes someone predisposed towards hetero/homosexuality. It was a while ago, though, and considered theory more than anything else. That's why I was just wondering if it ever gotten proven.
Good to know there's an explanation so that people can finally quit being discriminatory against someone's "life choice." (ugh)
Makes it hard for anyone with half a brain of common sense to look down upon this group of people, doesn't it?
