Wow this thread is devolving quickly.
Recognize when you're being trolled guys and don't reply with emotion.
pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Aug 22 2010, 12:48 PM) Question: Who appoints Zoneleaders?
You do, not the community. Welcome to Absurdistan.
That's where you're wrong.
The ZLs choose the other ZLs. I grant the ZLs administrative access on my systems.
They usually ask my opinions, and I give them. I'd tell them if I would refuse to give someone admin access to my systems... but the choice of ZL isn't mine.
A perfect example is FreeBeer taking over the helpline. The only interaction I had was saying "Just make sure he knows that once he goes ZL it's tough to go back to playing for fun. Everyone will look at him differently and will hate him just because they can. if he's still fine with it, then so be it"
It seems this is a common misconception about the structure here which is driving a lot of the emotions. Bard tried to clear it up earlier in this thread.
The ZLs are in charge of the community.
I am in charge of some computers.
If the ZLs tell me to do something, I do it. In the "power structure" (if you call it that) I am below the ZLs. If they decide to put everything on someone else's servers, then I'll do that. If they decide that someone else should hold the DNS keys then I'll do that.
pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Aug 22 2010, 12:48 PM) And since you quote Thalgor so often, please remind this:
Was spidey a primary contributor of CC team? No, you pushed him into the existing structure. (Maybe the best solution during that drama.)
Was Cort and now Bard a primary contributor of DevZone? No, you pushed both into the existing team.
The ZLs chose spidey, and the ZLs+me came to a compromise with both Cort and Bard.
I hate to be blunt, but the reason for the whole DevZL problem we've had for the last 6 months is me.
As owner of my server, I refused to grant admin access to the most active developer. This was my choice and it was made for my reasons. The ZLs respected it.
We were all really grasping at straws to find a replacement until Bard threw his name into the pool. Bard has a recognizable name in our community, knows how to code, and had experience with managing developers. In this case he seemed like an ideal fit based on his history offline and online.
Unfortunately not everyone agreed, but that is 100% common with any decision made by ANYBODY.
You can't please everyone, and you will make yourself crazy trying to.
So I'm not making any excuses.
Now back on topic... if Imago really is "leaving" unless a charity of his choice receives a donation amount to his satisfaction then that's his choice.
Let's all put our backs down, give ourselves some stretches, go outside for smokes, or whatever it is each of you do to relax.
If anything, this topic has brought about one very positive realization:
ALLEGIANCE WILL BE HERE TO STAY FOR A LONG TIME!
With so many of us vouching our commitment to keep this game alive, I think we are probably one of the luckiest communities online. I wish every other community had people even half-as-passionate about their cause as we are about ours.
