MW, if you're attempting to disprove my case, simply stating that it is incorrect does not suffice. Elaborate why it is incorrect, and use proper reasoning to stop me from retorting in any way.

I also have to say that any strategy that requires special settings is a failing strategy. Of course I'd use them when the settings do come, but I prefer sticking to typical game settings, and using strategies that work on just about any setting style.

And just so you know, I've seen your specmine rush, and it's just the way anybody would expect it to be. Supply yourself with a big map with lots of techrocks.

I've seen Spidey USE specmines on smaller maps with normal settings, but he knows not to rush them if the settings aren't stacked in his favor. Miners bring in the adv tech money, and specmines allow tapping into more tech only after mining is no longer possible, or you're reduced to scraping.

Oh dear, what terribly uncouth individuals I say what! Pooh to you, good sirs, while I sip my cognac and puff on my Cuban cigar! Oh my yes, what a decidedly brutish collection of ne'er-do-wells! Begone, fiends!

I'm still waiting for you to log on one day while I'm doing prime time and take up the command seat against me.

Ina game with non-perfect giga settings, rushing spec refs slows your tech don. The $$ you spend to build just ONE ref delays your tech base and getting enh ships. One of gigas benefits is quick $$ and quick tech. You should be able to get adv stuff fairly quick just mining.

If you see you got the tech advantage and have put it to good use and have hurt the enemy enough and you know they did not go sup, then u can consider spec mines.

spec mines support the main econ mid game, they do not replace it.

yes...u still got enh tech up and did all sorts of nice things. However, the problem is it took you LONGER. The early tech advatag if you can get it is vital. Giga needs to be able to outpace the enemy. Get the tech advantage and use it. That is how giga wins.

Actually, I've also seen some variant of a specref rush more often in giga lately. Mostly I've seen spidey do it, but he didn't do it in the moronic way that he intended to point out when he created this thread.

Whenever I see "Specref (Si) research completed" Our team has already taken a nice amount of the map, has killed miners/cons, or has stack. The first specref usually builds at home first to act as a homerip, or somewhere secure if there wasn't a tac rock at home. I believe that spidey would tap into another type of spec if he had a different home rock. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Another important piece of information is that when we get specmines, we also have 4 miners that are working their asses off. 9k a load times 4 is 36k. Specref research + first specref is 16k or 18k, IIRC. You'll still have 18k or 20k left over to buy a techbase, and even get another round of smaller cons cooking. By the time the techbase builds, you either have another miner load to get some tech, or you'll only have to wait a few seconds for miners to dock. Now you have defensive tech to guard your new specmine as it pays for itself, and you still have a thriving econ in your miners to get tech up.

If the team can keep the enemy's econ slowed down enough, the specref should have no trouble paying itself off and making a later profit. Even if it doesn't, we'd always have miners to finish the job in getting adv tech. It's a gamble that the best commanders like Spidey can get away with.

He does this for dreg too, but I've never seen him get HE mines until after adv tech is up, and team is competent enough with it.

As I said before...this may not be how Spidey thinks as he "rushes" specmines. Hopefully someone can correct me with contrary information if I am wrong ^^.

EDIT: Badger! I love your sig! mmm blood :3

Yea....spec refs after enh or adv tech is fine...that doesn't bother me. I am talking about buying spec mines before any tech base as giga...Before you even know what tech the enemy is going....that is risky and not the best plan imo. At least wait til u know the techs and u get yours out and planted....delaying giga tech can be costly....
