Not atm. The forms for signing up are in transition. When the course starts there will be a news post with your name on it.

Greetings, everyone! This is looking like my cup of tea. There certainly is a lot of information I'm wading through, and this is going to take me quite some time, I think, to develop anything remotely resembling skill at this game. That, however, is exactly what is going to make this all worth it, imho. I'm quite tired of brainless point and click games.

I realize that the AFS is quite new, but I'd much prefer a system with help from you folks who know exactly how to play, rather than just reading a lot of the files in the wiki by myself (of which I read a great deal before even attempting the download). Rather like learning a martial art directly from a master, rather than studying it in a book, it seems. That said, I realize that it being a new program, it might be hard to tell exactly when I'd be accepted in it, but I don't quite understand where I'm supposed to be looking for that confirmation, since apparently no emails are being sent out.

However I learn though, I will. This games looks extremely rewarding. Perhaps in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future I'll be able to hold my own, and contribute to my team effectively.

It's going to be a pleasure playing with you all.

Welcome aboard

I recommend you focus on setting up good controls as early as possible. Playing with a bad (stiff and/or imprecise) joystick is a pain, as is mouse and badly set up keyboard. When you get a good setup done early you'll get it into your cerebellum quick and don't have to think about it.

Other than that, practice makes perfect. Get into the games, and don't worry about asking questions.

Welcome to, Jerako!

@AFS was designed to be a bit more hands-on than the previous @CDT program, with more involvement from veteran mentors. Addtionally @AFS has a special forum where you can ask the most noobish of all questions without fear of ridicule, and you get lots of helpful answers.

It's not impossible to learn the game on your own and from the wiki (that's how I did it when I joined a couple years back). Every once in a while you'll meet someone who's willing to take you off-server or work with you in-game to teach some specific aspect of the game. You'll see bunches of people running around with @Help tags, they're self-identified carebears, feel free to ask them anything. Whatever you feel most comfortable with -- there's a lot of resources to get you up and running, make the most of them!

Jerako - I've seen your application, and will add you later (at lunchtime as I'm at work)

Basically - you will know you are on the course when you can access this forum.

We are working on ways of notifying accepted people. Bear with us a bit.

All applicants as of now have been added to the AFS roster. If you have applied for AFS, and cannot access the forum here. Please Reapply, or PM me Idanmel, or Xeretov with your issue.

Hello, all! Looks like I'm the new kid 'round these parts. Luckily, I hit the wiki first, so I got a decent idea of how the game works. I played my first game today (special thanks to Spideycw for telling me about mouse control  ). I did about as poorly as I expected (I failed badly at the training missions, which speaks to my history of epic failure at all flight sims ever), but I scored a couple hits on some people, and I managed to find a power-up, which is almost kinda notable. I've applied for the next AFS in hopes of slightly mitigating that, with hopes of eventually getting into ACS in order to escape it forever.

I actually made the decision to play Allegiance because I like team-based online games, but my poor reflexes and aim make me better-suited to a tactical role, and Allegiance provides that*.

So, um, anyway, it's great to be here, and I can't wait to get good enough to maybe kill an undefended miner some day (although I learned a lot from the "You Suck at Allegiance" thread already, I'll probably try applying that new knowledge later this week). Sorry if I'm rambling or something.

*TVTropes actually told me about the game, I've been slowly amassing a vast collection of innovative freeware games on its recommendation, because I subsist on a diet of quirky, high-concept, games like Earthbound and Live A Live (and Allegiance, natch). But I'm rambling again.
