Training missions are generally good only for a one time use (except the miner defence one where you can practice your skills if you want) but the best way for you to get some real experience is to (unfortunately) play on the main server, and as a lot of questions. If you don't understand something just ask in the main chat and you should get a sensible reply.
Reading through and joining up to CDT-I is a STRONG recommendation for learning how to play the game to a decent standard, and at least know what's going on most of the time

I'm Skutch and I am not new to this game, but I never really learned to play it properly.
First time I played was around year 2001 attending some small LAN parties and I actually managed to get an original copy. I did unfortunately not get any good INTERNET supplier before Microsoft shut down the Zone.
Then I joined the On line play early 2003. Took the Nick Raven or Raven(SWE) or something. Unfortunately I was deported to Bangkok by my employer by February, so I did not get to play much then. Then I forgot about Allegiance until This autumn.
Ill try to learn the game this time, Ill be reading the Cadet I wiki as starters and play some newbie games. On the LAN parties I really enjoyed playing the role of commander, which I hope one day I can master. But first things first, Ill try getting to be an OK pilot.
See you out there!

I've heard about Allegiance going free for years now but had no idea the structure you folks had set up for educating new players and ensuring games are more than DM in space. It tipped me into finally giving the game a shot and I've been making my way through the Cadet I articles.
I did sign up for a course as well, but haven't received an e-mail back yet. How long does it usually take, in case I need to go digging through my spam filtered mail?
re email: There used to be an autoresponder/confirmation sent, but we've been shifting things around a bit. I don't know if one goes out currently.
Bear with them, they'll definitely announce the next one - I think it's pretty soon, in fact. In the mean time, welcome! Read up on the wiki, and join in-game to get your "space-legs".

Oh, I should probably also sign up to Cadet I. I hope I remember to do it. Played two games yesterday, I have soooo much to learn. At least I scouted, dropped some probes and nanned some bombers (before I was vaporized )

Have patience, and soon you will be vaporising too
