Not what I meant, Grimm. (I have a feeling you know that, but just in case...)

Attracting new players is a worthwhile effort.
The proxy-rigged voting, the posting about the "vote cheating" on other games' boards, all the rest of that... is nonsense. The guy on the Entropia boards that says it shows what a strong community they have is clueless - it just means they had better cheating methods.

So, let's keep things honest eh? Attract players to the game by showcasing the game... not with these sort of schoolyard antics.

Sorry - I've spit into the wind for too long. It's up to the players now.

I'll give you a start: Next time you see a completely stacked, pointless, already decided game getting ready to start - SAY SOMETHING. That's the sort of gameplay that turns people off. Next time you see someone get booted for making an honest mistake - SAY SOMETHING.

@Cadet comes to mind... /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh:" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

Speaking of showcasing the game: what about putting a quick description of Allegiance just above the News part of the homepage? Just to show what this site is about.

I mean -- if we don't showcase on our homepage...

EDIT: Thank you to the mods. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Even something as simple as this (but better looking and funnier) would work.

EDIT: Image at full resolution is here. Sigh.

batman wrote:QUOTE (batman @ Mar 1 2007, 11:45 PM) Just because YOU did not know of the site until this thread does not mean OTHERS do not know of MPOGD. In fact, this is how I found out about allegiance more than a year ago. The site has been around a while and has a pretty good search function. You can log on and select a game and hit the similar games tab and get a list of games with summaries. Not a bad deal.
Misunderstanding here? I came to Allegiance via MOPG, too. The stupid people I was referring to are not to be found there... :-)

batman: ASGS does keep records, Pook could probably link you if you asked him very nicely. I suspect that we did get more than usual this month (just from how swamped we usually were ingame), and I suspect we also kept fewer than usual of them.

As I recall, we tend to get thousands of people every month who try the game once or twice and then immediately quit. Our retention is (much) less than 1%- very few Cadet classes have more than 10 graduates; not all graduates keep playing, and very few people hang around who don't go through Cadet.

There's lots of theorizing about why this occurs (and it's very interesting, of course, that the release of R3 and the Solving of the Networking Problems didn't drastically increase our retention). Pook appears to think it's stacked games- I think that a lot of the people who only play once are probably more annoyed by the long wait between games, their inability to command on the only server, and being unable to join a game in progress because the team with less players isn't accepting 0s. This is helped, obviously, by always having a newbie server on (I notice that it hasn't been up very much lately) and tring to encourage 0s to use it. Cadet helps also.

We also lose vets every month due to @#(!ty gameplay, drama, and frustration. I think the best way to help with that is to encourage squad play and teach new commanders.

Frankly, the community is large enough right now that we could have plenty of good games. I don't think that size is the main problem.

aye, this may be a good idea from orion. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

but one of the side things with say 4 randomly selected thumbnail screen shots in that you can click for a bigger view would be good
title it "random screen shots" or something

http://www.entropiaforum.com/forums/showpo...p;postcount=279

If they draw the random number and it happens to be '2', that would be poetic justice.

Now if 228, 24, 719, or 585 win I would just laugh my ass off. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Oh and how do we already have 300+ votes this month?
ooh come on 719 /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

p.s. we didn't get out smarted

wizz agreed to not cheat for 2 days, not to not cheat for the rest of the competition.
i quite enjoyed not having to vote (more than once) those days /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thruth to be told: there was one on the old site. I think it didn't help much.

There is a EU newbie server, it should be up all the time. (in theory)
