Oh my goodness I actually did something useful.

Welcome, Capsule. :) I actually remember the scout getting away from me in that same training mission when I tried it a few years back... :P

Thank you for the insight. ^_^ If a new brief help-overview page gets made by Bacon, maybe the num0 = mouse! thing could be put there somewhere in big letters, to make sure everyone sees it...

Yeah, the command thing is a tough one. 6_6 For me the hybrid RTS-flight sim nature of Alleg is pretty much the biggest appeal also (though I am terrible at commanding  ) but it really is hard to get new players more involved in that. Commanding requires keeping so many different things in mind at once that it's really hard for someone new to the game (or even old to the game, for that matter) to do it well... And veteran commanders will be able to instantly out-maneuver you, because they know all the tricks and all the best strategies, and know how to get their team to listen and, most importantly, have the experience that gives them confidence when they need to make quick decisions.

But I see your point. New players, as a rule, love to comm, and old ones... well, they know how tough it is, so often, they don't. Finding some way to get new players to comm moar, and betterer, without waiting for them to reach ACS would be neat... but it would be really difficult to do well... >_>

Anywho, plz stick around. Maybe someday you will become a great commander. :) And besides, the non-commanding aspect of this game still requires a lot of situational awareness and strategic thought, so you might grow to enjoy that more and more as well. ^_^

I'm not sure what you mean by linking ASGS and the forum more, though.

*pat on the back to Girly*

He means that it's not real clear about the forums being a good place for info and a direct link via the beginning log on is in order... I think.

Commanding isn't going to happen on the main game since you'll be crushed by even a half decent player. While your learning your asking somewhere between 30-70 people to be willing to let you learn and experience basically a game that is only fun for, well you. Now multiple that by all the new players and the many games it's going to take to get even not awful at it and well you can see the issue. Commanding is a pretty intense experience and nothing like Starcraft. <--- inside joke

Bacon bits

I think it would be useful to explain why commanding the main game isn't going to happen for awhile probably in the line of , your having fun but not the other 70 people.

What if we had like little videos that play in the background of the screen when you choose and join a faction, like the faction leader or recruiter going on about something, mentioning the strengths and weaknesses of the faction.

Doubt it will happen as you would need voice actors and either good animating, 3D or 2D, or actors.

I can see, like, a stern uniformed man for the IC, a freedom fighter kinda character with an ammo belt over his shoulder or some crap for the Belters, a misleading advertisement for Giga, LOL, and some snobbish egotistical alien speaking of the Unitys superiority over all others etc.

You're probably right about it being too much work, but your post reminded me Of the "Signature Banners" that go with each faction. these were originally designed to be sorta like Recruitment posters

Here - heres the belts example

Could we integrate them in some fashion - it would fit with you "immerse in storyline" theme Bacon....

We could have a script and find voice actors somewhere, maybe scrolling text...

Tell you what.
Give me the scripts, and detailed character descriptions (This means anyone who's interested, not just !jarvis), and I'll forward them to someone I know who is set up for this sort of thing. He does a lot of re-dubbing, sound effects, and has all the fancy equipment and software, and I think he *might* be able to do it.
If it can stand up to Allegiance scrutiny, that's another question...

We could also have squads drift back to being associated with a particular faction. But that might take some serious balancing issues...

CapsuleJ wrote:QUOTE (CapsuleJ @ Dec 16 2009, 06:54 AM) My last idea is maybe having a highly visible notice that alerts all players that Num0=mouse control. I got lucky and one of the local luminaries informed me of that invaluable little key, but many new players may not know about it until it's too late. Sorry if this got ranty or incoherent or anything, hope it helps.
Speaking of alerts to newbies, maybe we could set up a ASGS message for all newbies that informs them about the prime time for Allegiance, so they dont leave thinking the game is dead if they joined at 10 am european time. We could even display yesterday's prime time on the website.

Btw, welcome Capsule. :)

This is a good idea, either that or could we get proactive with the Message Of The Day and put something in there about primetime e.g. a daily message about Peak players online and when it was?(I have no idea how difficult it is to update the MOTD though)

A couple of the reviews on MPOGD complain, they logged on, saw noone - logged off then uninstalled (more or less).

We have been ensuring that we will play a game late night if a newbie wants to play; no matter how much we don't want to comm. Or if there are two newbies, we have them comm against each other and try and help them along.

Of course we always tell them that the game are much bigger in prime time.
