FreeBeer wrote:QUOTE (FreeBeer @ Sep 29 2009, 08:44 PM) Marketing is fine. I support it. But whatever methods you use, I'd make sure that it was targeted at the right type of gamer. You don't want to attract everyone who games, you want to attract the type of gamer that "gets" Allegiance, that is willing to accept a challenge, and is willing to accept a learning curve. If you attract the wrong type (in too many numbers) the games have the potential to suck for everyone - including the "right kind of newbie" who snuck in with the great unwashed.
But yeah, we need to get our house in order, too. Address the problems that make the game difficult to install and launch. This way the marketing effort won't have been in vain.
This is the whole reason that brought me to Allegiance in the first place. Just browsing wikipedia for cool space games and when I got to the Allegiance community sites... the more I read the more I was interested. Love them flight simulators, OFP, and in depth games. This has the depth, and the multiplayer! Market it as such.

whatever you guys decide, drop me a line and i can work on getting MLG leaders to do a couple days front for us.
Just to let ya know MLG (major league gaming) is an all console website for tournaments and leagues. The number of users is Massive.
I reckon two day front page there would bring at least a couple hundred new players alone.
www.gamebattles.com linky may not work.. If not copy paste :/
About 400,000 gamers on this site a day.
With over 3,500,000 people registered.

Sounds good, but lets make sure cadet signups are ready, and give the administration a heads up for the date. 200 new guys a day would be fine, I'd be glad to play with a bunch of vital new guys. It only the most effective the first time it's used, so we don't want to waste it.

I agree as well, but as Kofi said, this is an opportunity we would not want to squander. Maybe this should wait for R5 and our new ASGS before we push on a site with this many users. I am sure the marketing department will have a thread for suggestions. This is a great one.

That's kind of why we need a list/plan of different things we can do. Pick a couple of the smaller ones and do them while we wait for R5.

The noob server, with a full time @help to command and teach, should be able to stop most of the problems mention above.
We MUST grow this community or we just become a few hundred players messing around during the week waiting for the real games on Sunday
During the AZ there was always 2 or 3 20vs20 games going on. Simply because games had a set max player setting.
this is no longer the case which is why we get a 5vs5 that turns into a 40vs40 on Sat and Sundays

I agree we should wait to use this. it would be a major advertisement for allegiance, with almost the entire gaming world gonna have a look.
we should have the game at its best possible state. as to what its best possible state is, i havent the foggiest as i have no clue what these new ubdates are gonna have.
also with the release of windows 7 and some people using vista, allegiance will need to be fully compatible with the new windows (which i know is being worked on)
so like i said when ya want me to work it out drop me a line and i can sort it out until then use smaller sites.
heavenly

I've just scored the new Silverlight commercial package with 3ds Max, Rhino, Bongo etc on the way in the next 3 weeks. Will work on Alleg based stuff in spare time (I'll call it "training and development" - work won't care) with a view to ads/marketing
