I agree.

We don't solicit players from other squads. We don't even do the "Hey, if you ever want a change of scenery...". Granted, when new pilots come onboard they try to bring their friends along ( Case in point : TB and Strike700 are inseparable. So we got them as a package deal /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />), but any players that we've added recently either came to us due to disagreements with their previous squad or were exceptional newbies who persisted in pestering our leadership for admission.

I wanted to mention one thing... I can only speak from my own experience. ACE may not be the top squad, but if you look at our retention, we're doing something right. It's something we can be proud of. In my time here with ACE, we've only lost 1 pilot due to interpersonal issues, not squad related drama. Yes we have our occasional flare ups but since most of us are reasonable, there's nothing that keeps us from working out our differences.

Why wouldn't that look attractive for a potential recruit?

As I am reading this a few things come to mind. Theres nothing to be done. Players join the squads they want to play with. Sometimes they join the wrong squad the 1st time around and move on to another. So B IT

I missed the drama of BS when a lot of players left, so I have no comment on that.

SPQR has issue's for many reasons. I know of 4 who have left in the last few weeks and now with DaWife/Kristi losing her husband I dont know if they will recover. We will see in the months ahead.

The "elite" squads of today have a huge advantage right now. Players want to play with a winner. If you were a NBA player you would have jumped ship and joined the Celtics if you could. NBA does not allow that. Players have no free will per say. But we do. We play for whom we want and who will have us.

Since I returned to BS I have steped up and recruited 11+ players(with others help) 1 whom we just lost,(RIP Optimus) I will continue to recruit player whom I feel will add to the level of play for our squad.some are just out of CDT2 and some have been playing a year or more. I will not "recruit from other squads" I feel these new or unsquaded players are the players we will count on in the future. As we grow together.

The same is true in sports. Teams get better while others get worse. Who knows maybe Spidey will get tired of Alleg and take a break for a year or 2

Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Jun 27 2008, 06:41 AM) The last time it was perceived to be an issue was when RT first reached 50 players. Pook told us to stop recruiting which we did once we asked for the Cadet rules to be changed to allow us to.

BS now has 71 players.

That niggles slightly even if the community is larger these days.

I missed this post FFS

We have 36 ACTIVE and yet we fielded only 13 for our last SG vs GB who only had 2 show.

I would like 100 members in BS, simply because it would take that many to feild a 20vs20 game. Since we only feild 1/5 of our roster for a SG now.

And your looking at the total roster. Not ACTIVE who have played in the last 30 days. Which doesnt mean they have made a SG during that time.

BTW I have been BS since the days of AW2 and the end of the AZ. Although I have had times I was inactive due to RL or computer issues. I came back a little over a year ago and have enjoyed myself in the squad win or lose. I do prefer the win part!

You will never stop the skill drain from 'weaker squads' nor will you see them win 'recruiting battles' in the average case vs 'strong' squads.

And if you eventually snapped a few promising pilots (and trained) them they..

First of all, these...
Mr. Kltplzyxm wrote:QUOTE (Mr. Kltplzyxm @ Jun 27 2008, 07:21 AM) ...
within the squad. People will leave if they see that the squad is:
* acting irrationally/unfairly
* being too dramatic
* fosters an unhealthy environment that does not supports it's players
* bashing it's own players (see above)
* intolerant and/or has a hard time forgiving mistakes
* has players that are not on the same page as the overall culture of the squad, or has a culture that is vague or that noone understands
* changing to a culture that players do not like
are the reason people join XT. I find that funny.

Second, squads have been ridiculously uneven since the beginning of Allegiance. Despite this we have lots and lots of squad games, several new and thriving squads, and no deterioration of squad game quality. This despite a recent period where one squad won 100% and the next-best squad was unbeatable by anyone else. Allegiance has much nastier problems than squad skill disparity.

I would like to see a fairly tight upper limit on squad size, perhaps even 60-70 pilots. This would place a premium on active players (who deserve, frankly, to be recruited harder) and encourage squads who have become fat and decadent to split. It would also reduce the problem of benched squaddies.

Finally, perhaps some formal community recognition for good vets who join intermediate squads and train them up is in order.

I don't know how these changes would be decided on or put into effect given our current system of government though. I guess Raveen would decide, after maybe an ASGS poll?

O.K., O.K.

I hear you, Allegiance community....I get it! You want me to join a squad to even things out. All you have to do is ask.

p.s. I said even things out but not necessarily in a good way...like how Darth Vader was to bring balance to the Force.

I assume you mean ACTIVE players who show up for squad games which we only have about 15 who show up any givin week. We only have 7 maybe 10 that make "every" squad game "every" week. As we also have some who have not played a SG in over a year but they remain on the roster.

Fishbone feel free to Join BS

Wow spidey, your remarks are as "carefully calculated" as your "stats". Please keep it up for more amusment.

Anyhow, I doubt any kind of forcing people to play for this or that squad would work. Wouldn't people just bail at some point? Or just stop playing squad games? Or stop playing at all? ...until such time comes they can go somewhere else again according to some rules?
Maybe more events with mixed up squad members would help bring up the spirit for a while at least?

Is suffering through months/years of being in the wrong squad really worth the pat on the back?

@Ryjam: You are showing 1/3rd of your squad if 13 people show to a SG. Counting the 39 people inactive is pretty stupid, they are only kept there just for the hell of it. 90% of them aren't coming back.
