Basicly, having a nearly unarmed infantry unit as a "pod" does not interfere with having infantry, since we'd most likely be using small batlesuits as infantry (you don't wanna go out against tanks without some sort of protection and mechanical aid to help you carry the heavy guns you need). So besicly, if your vehicle or batlesuit gets destoyed, you get ejected as a pilot and you have to get back home again. you're not going that fast when walking though /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />.

Adding to this idea, it would be possible to have a dropship-like unit (or even a transport truck) to drop off empty vehicles, so ejected pilots can get back into a vehicle, without having to get back home. This way, you could even swap vehicles when needed (provided that the dropship doesn't get shot down before it drops). Dropships could also possibly drop of stationary turrets, so you can fortify a position for a builder, or to hold an important passage

CraftyCelt wrote:QUOTE (CraftyCelt @ Jul 5 2007, 05:20 AM) The real usefulness of a pod is when you get podded in an enemy sector and can follow an enemy con uneyed, spot where it builds and find it. There is a way to fly a pod and a player has to think although alot slower about how best to use a pod to further the teams cause. The Zombie idea I liked but instead of Zombies you could just loose the players ability to run and use weapons as for pick ups I haven't thought about that yet.
Another flash would be a form of holographic data transfer much like tigers idea but rather than radio signals a device that stores the players consciousness and floats back to the nearest base much like a pod it is steerable like a ghost in wow.
Probably all nonsense but i have an excuse it is 3:19AM /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
That was my idea too. A ghost like pod. But they lol-ed at me :(

i say we simply make "regular" infantry useless in combat, so if you want to do anything you have to be in your combat suit (think mini mech - not huge monsters, but at least 4-5 meters tall), or some veichle, and when you get ejected from that, you are just a regular human in survival suit, with your side-arm.

so effectivley pods would be dangerous only to other pods, and their demage class would be too light to threaten anything else (except when massed (6-8?), and then only the weakest hulls).

Yeap. And when your survivial suit cant recycle air anymore, you die.

thus solving many of our problems. AND we all know that battle-suits offer more design solutions, more SF touch, and rock and pwn more than regular infantry /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

my pod idea is: if you die, you get shifted to an other dimension, you'd see all around you, but you cannot interfere with it. you'd have to walk to a phase shifting device something to get shifted back to the normal dimension. however, enemy weapons can punch holes in the spatial distortion field around you that creates the dimension shifting. so they can still kill you.

another idea: If you die, you get uploaded into a digital world, in which you are represented by a simple icon, i.e a cube, where you have to "walk" to the nearest pick up point.

Ok, enough of this.

You guys got one more week or so before I am making a poll and we decide.

lol, poor Cadillac.
Another thing we could do is: implement all these ideas (there's only actually 3 or 4 unique ideas, in all these 3 pages), and have them selectable from a dropdown menu in a pre-game menu like in Allegiance (the Settings menu).
But yeah, poll sounds good. Might want to put on the poll, the dropdown menu idea.
