Yup this is true. Never heard of anyone having issues with getting 2 weeks off in a row. Of course you have to arrange things so that the company isn't too inconvenienced, eg I try to take holidays not during school holidays, as anyone with kids will want to take their holidays then. (Plus things are generally cheaper outside of school holidays too )
I even took 20 of my 24 days of leave in one go once. I booked it way in advance and I had several years of good service behind me, but they still let me have it when company policy was no more than 2 weeks in a row.

I guess some people I know are a little unlucky with their bosses then. But still, you can forget that "of course..." stuff over here. People in general have 3 weeks of summer holiday, when they want it. It's the company's job to make arrangements for that time... And most people take their 3 weeks (sometimes more if they have overtime saved up) at the most popular time. We're used to the country being semi shut down for a few weeks.

Depends on your industry I suspect. I work in public service and there would be an absolute @#(!storm if there wasn't someone to complain to about imaginary potholes for a couple of weeks in the summer. Or if there was a major flooding incident there should be someone (ie one of the two of us) co-ordinating the response.
If you're not in a public facing role it may be a different matter altogether. Back in the day you would have factories shut down for two weeks in the summer for all the workers to have holiday at the same time (generally all in the same place organised by the business).

Yeah new labour laws now means employers can't force workers to take leave, they can give them paid leave if they are shutting down for a week or something but unless they agree with the employees then that leave won't come out of their annual leave.
Also Rav still lots of potholes, go fix please! At least there was enough grit this time (3rd times the charm)
We've got guys flying back to India, China, East Europe for 4-5 week durations all the time. It's really expensive to fly, so they bank up vacation get approval for extended leave, and off they go.
Usually, it means foreign sweets when they get back too, world sugaries are awesome!
