Lol, Who will set up the pool lottery for when the next thread of this kind comes up? Id like to reserve May 2011.
This weekend I introduced some new players (and tried to get interest of some older ones) on a LAN party. I have the following observations to share with you.
1) installation is an obstacle, but thanks to our excellent help line I could easily solve their problems (8 instances of needing the latest DirectX9 version and 1 of using an older installer). Young people seem to get confused about the need for DirecX9 (I think I know why) as they generally have the latest DirectX11 and they think it should be enough.
2) keyboard mapping is a pain. I tried using the Cadet I inputmap1.mdl and the printout http://www.freeallegiance.org/FAW/index.ph...apping_controls for the new players but with limited success.
For the next LAN I will try to make "my own" set ups with related print outs for a) laptop with virtual joystick, b) laptop with joystick, c)desktop with virtual joystick and d) desktop with joystick. As there are many different stick out there it will be a bit of a challenge to get a generic joystick mapping but hey, easy is boring
. I might start a thread about this in the coming months =)
3) They thought is was fun dogfighting and also doing other stuff when they got a defined role where they understood the purpose. We did some "training" with me as "teacher" and that can be quite effective when you are in the same room. I also now know how I can prepare to be a more effective teacher next time.
Still, it is unlikely they will start playing on-line at the moment, but I wont give up and I will be better prepared for the next LAN and one day the will see the light (hallelujah)
1 & 2 are known issues and as I understand it the community is working on it.
This is what I did recently to promote Allegiance, what did you do?
