I'm going to go against the grain here and point out that in both cases, especially the second, the comm who booted did have a legitimate grievance, although I'm not sure whether it's boot-worthy. Phalhell isn't a newb or a noob, and presumably is at least decent at playing (he's been playing at least as long as I have, anyway, since he picked it up a few weeks ago), so he probably appeared to be a voob. The first case is pretty ambiguous - maybe the comm flew too far away from a base like an idiot and got podded and threw a fit, or maybe he launched to defend a base but the base got destroyed/captured, leaving him with a long pod ride to the next closest base. The second case, though, is pretty clear, and perfectly understandable - it's pretty frustrating to have something important like a bomb run or a tp2 drop fail because the person entrusted with the job fumbles around like an idiot wasting time and making dumb mistakes.

The people who're yelling for the removal of the boot button are being ridiculous - I'm still fairly new, lost my # tag weeks ago, and make little mistakes all the time, yet I've still never been booted, even though there were a couple of times when it would've been perfectly understandable (like the time I screwed up my view settings while sitting on a bomber turret, just as two enemy ints showed up). Sometimes people just don't listen. I've seen people in pickup games who actually just didn't bother to read the chat. For things like that, you need the power to boot. On the other hand, sometimes a trigger-happy commander boots for the slightest mistake. Just suck it up, log in with a hider, join the other side, and watch him lose as he boots team members every time something fails.

My first boot taught me that you pick up $500 (or is it $1k?) when you pick up an aleph res. I was booted because the team needed the money. Not because I had done something intentionally wrong. Talked to the com and everything was fine.

Psych is right (`yd). You can learn from being booted. It isn't that big a deal. You still get to play.

Getting booted repeatedly should tell you that you are doing something wrong. On the rare occasion that I com, I try to give #s some waypoints when I can. And yes, I too have booted for stupid things and felt bad about it, contacted the player, and tried to explain/apologize (if it was not entirely deserved in retrospect).

There are tons of situations when a boot is not only warranted but NEEDED and you want to strip that from people? I feel like you either A) never play or think there is some @Alleg on 24/7. Either way you shouldn't be commenting since you obviously haven't thought this out

Welcome back Phalhell. Don't take the boots personally. They should get much more rare in the future.

Personally I only got to play for a few months back in 2000, but I've been back now for two years, and am loving it.

Unfortunately, yes. Everything in this game is in English. The in game menus are English, the instructions in the F1 menu are English, the wiki documentation is English and the majority of players speak English. And in today's world, whether you like it or not, English skills are mandatory if you wish to survive.

It would actually be really nice if the "you have been banned" message could be changed to something like, "Oops! You got booted by the commander!" and have a nice explanation of how to log in and join the other team, with some sort of encouragement to beat up the comm who did the booting.

That way maybe people would realize that this is a game, booting is part of the game, and would stopy crying and just play the game to have fun instead of taking their ball and going home when things aren't going their way.

That's a really awesome idea. People would probably get worked up way less about booting if the message they saw looked less like Serious Business, and included instructions on how to re-join.
