Oh dear, he's actually makings sense. Too bad about the other thing though.

It was never meant to be a fair fight. The system allows (even encourages) practices such as proxy voting or what not. We only found out later, as the real nature of the thing is not apparent to the casual reader and instead looks very fair to the non-geek.

Listen jor/aegis/mjo/whateva these are people we're trying to impress to join Allegiance.

We're not doing this to see who clicks the most, we're doing this to raise the Allegiance's profile and gain players.

I think your action are against the needs of the community when you go and taunt people not to join, which is in effect what you're doing.

it really defeats the point of getting a good message across if you win by cheating just as much as the other people. What makes it worse, is if someone decides to join the forums to check out the games community beforehand to playing, they are gonna see this Vote For Allegiance topic, and read it, and start to assume some bad things.

I thought we were the "classy" group of players, do we need to lower ourselves to the standards of some "lesser morale" group? I don't see much sense in pouring oil on the fire, nor to win at all costs.

We have gained attention now, they are looking at us. Let's hope this will be positive attention. We benefit more from new players who stay, then from a 1st or 2nd place at some ranking board.

Besides, groups who win aren't eligible to compete for another year. If EU wants it so bad, let em cheat to get it, and we'll get em next month (if we don't this month)

I love the way this thread's become a sort of communal self reflection on our projected image whilst the EU one is just bump after bump after bump.

This, in my mind, is one of the stronger points of this community and should be pretty obvious to even a casual mature reader. Even the other hot topic with the standard politics discussion about the bloody americans is more than positively lacking in the usual hotheaded morose idiocy so prevalent in internet conversations.

Next month will get much less attention/enthusiasm from the community. Moreover, the winner of March 2006 (Daimonin) will return in race and will be motivated to mantain the spot. Project Rockstar (currently #4) won February 2006.

Which is almost exactly what I said on the EU forums, really people if you're going to gang up on me make sure you don't actually agree with me.

I'm glad you think that being 'above' or 'morally' (unless you really meant morale) superior to someone will benefit you or translate into more respect for you from some, as yet, unidentifed casual peruser of MpogD.com. The fact that you value your moral high ground removes your own moral foundation AND morality has not frequently resulted in real world gains. See: War, what is it good for?

No I am not saying we are at war but if your moral superiority is more important to you than tangible gains I suggest you take a lesson from America's Quakers in the revolutionary war...

well, the quakers like most people though, are misguided on their morality, and use an excuse to justify the killing. The people who really did take a morally upright stance actually did stay pacifist. I'm not talking about the Cardinals and whatnot who called for them to perform such actions in "the name of God" or something similar, i'm talking about the very few that decided the church IS fallible and did what was right instead of what they were told to do. I myself may not be a devout believer in my religion, but i also take solace in the fact that out of everyone that goes to my church, i'm the only 'true' pacifist amongst them (even if it does lead to getting my arse kicked about when idiots wanna pick fights)
