That was jpomail in Climategate.

Basically, this is my take on it:

First bunch of pages were critiques and commentary. Blah to everybody except Bacon while he was working.

A bit of teasing Bacon because evidently his HTML skills are outdated.

Eventually someone said something other than "this would be neat," became something more like "It would be better if you did this"

Bacon: Why are you telling me what to do?

A bit of bickering follows

TE: People should just submit their ideas to me, we'll have a poll on them and I'll host the winner

Bacon: We should have them all coded first, to compare them better

Spidey: Why should we have people do lots of working coding them all when only one will be used, if even that one is necessary? That doesn't make sense. Let's just make separate threads for critiques on the various entries, since this thread is long, and have a poll to find the best and just code that.

Bacon: STOP GIVING ME ORDERS!

That's basically how it seemed to me.

Actually I was talking about this and while searching for it I started re-reading some of my greatest work.

Oh, nvm then. That's still your synopsis anyway, if you don't mind me as a filter.

IB_ wrote:QUOTE (IB_ @ Dec 28 2009, 07:40 AM) Been a bit ill, plus I've laid off Bacon after he started ranting at me in pms. Figured he must have something going on IRL. This thread has been pretty lol worthy from the little I've read. I would read it all, but its a bit long. Can someone do a...was it mcw?...summary?
I wish I had known ahead of time that asking simple questions and suggesting we have a non 16 page thread would subject me to blathery inbox messages as well about how I'm taking over his project. Please warn me next time. I hope your illness is in remission beyond that!

I'm in your thread - given you ordahs!

All I have to say is if this how bacon reacts when I asked why everything must be coded - I'm curious as to how he reacted to real criticism elsewhere in the thread

Sometimes it is the way you say it, not what you say.

Bacon, just stop talking in here until we have your first version ready to go shall we?

From someone who used to do this for a living, I would suggest that doing mock-ups in photoshop to settle on a design rather than starting with code is usually a quicker way to get what you want. In my experience, the graphic design part usually takes a lot longer than the code part.

Also, I would suggest that your current mockup is a bit too glitzy. Too much rah rah, bright and shiney, not enough usability. And I hate a video embedded on the front page, it just slows things down. A still pic with a link is better, that way people who want to view the video can click it and wait rather than forcing every visitor to wait for the embed to load.

I agree with TA with regard to it being too glitzy, and while "design takes longer than coding" may hold true for this project, it definitely is not true in any case involving more than just a simple web page.

Also, because the embedded video is being hosted by youtube, it will download simultaneously with the HTML/JS/CSS/images, so the slow down the page load time is hardly more than the <embed> tag adds to the size of the markup (not much).

Jerako.... who the flying $#@! are you?

Dorjan has it right on the nose. It wasn't WHAT was said, it was how it was said. There is a tone to people's writing, the way things are worded, when it is said, and how I'm talked to.

Do you see me bitching at Dorjan for having the audacity to tell me my code sucks and that it needs to be totally rewritten? No? Huh. I wonder why that is.

IB and Jerako also join the ignore list.

if you were serious about moving some stuff around, gimmie an image of the reshuffle and ill see what can be done.

first: just cos something is time consuming, doent mean you shouldnt do it, you should delegate it instead :D

second: dont rush it quite so much, i get wanting it done soon, but a few days extra can go a long way.

third: if someone aint constructive, whatever you do, do not try to talk to them, its dangerous for you mental health ;)
Yeah, I suppooosseee =P I think that adding the top part of the page to a tab would actually be a fairly simple cut-and-paste and renaming a DIV, so assuming Dorjan's code is something I can still understand, I could probably do it w/ minimal work. But if it looks like it'd take forever, I'll definitely let you do it =)

I also think that all the buttons need re-doing.... again.... they're not as "spacey" looking as they could be. I need to make them more angular and futuristic looking, or perhaps just simpler.

I also need to stop saying that I'm "done" with this portal page stuff, because it takes 1 "oooh that'd look cool" idea for me to want to change it again, hahahaha.
