I have no opinion on this matter.

Elections seems a bit hard to organize. Vote where? On the forum? On the Game itself? People play and do not visit the forum and vise versa. Or attend to both forum and game.

About pre 2007 Alleg fun. The days of the Very Famous Highly Motivated People from that era gone. The will likely not come back (the people I mean in an "official" role).

Also what I remember is that some people "did" and "organized" stuff without need for a title or need for "glory". Some just "did it".

On a side note, I do think some of the current tagged ZL's are suffering from a burn out, but fear the total collapse of alleg if they fully quit.

Agreed. I will stop asking for title even if it would give me better influence and license to effect change.

I will organize and do my best to effect change regardless. I think I get it now.

On a side note, I don't fear Alleg's destruction if our ZL's quit. Quite the opposite.

So what needs to be done to change things around here?
Anyone have the cash in hand to start paying for the server and hosting provided by TE?

It's not a question of money or hosting Paps. We need a smooth transition by TE himself. "Burning bridges" would not get us to a better place.

Need to be pragmatic here.

Administration issues are annoying, sure, but just like ZL inactivity is not the problem (lack of contributions is the problem), administration is not the problem either. Yeah, we have extreme delays with AU updates for the core and potentially delays with ACSS transition (I'm not in the loop on that but I know TE wants it done sooner than later). But those are not critical to "save the game".

The game is still on track to be dead by the end of the year regardless. The post-summer bump is over, and leaderboard is down to 143. Short of a huge marketing push, our only hope is AI, and it is a huge project which has nobody working on it and may not be feasible in the end anyway. I expect we'll shutter the game until if/when it's done, thus making it possible for newbies to actually PLAY the game.

Want bigger games? Log on to play at the official game time: 9pmET/8pmCT/7pmMT/6pmPT every day of the week. Also Saturdays 8pm UTC.

Administration is a huge part of the problem. The reason why the leaderboard is down to 143 is because of lack of administration. If we had an administrator(s) who showed any interest/effort in keeping Allegiance alive, Allegiance would not be this bad off. Just about the only thing TE has done aside from pay the bills is install the Wiki. He has showed no interest in keeping Allegiance alive except briefly after taking over as admin.

If we had an active admin who remotely cared about keeping the game alive we would have a proper website, game updates done within a reasonable time, and a leader. These things would have kept this community together and the game alive. The worst part is most of the things that we need an admin for require extremely little time yet take a ridiculously long time to get done or don't get done at all.

The older this game gets and the more F2P games that are released, the harder it will be to keep Allegiance alive. However there is no reason we should be so bad off right now.

We are past the point of having a reasonable chance to save the game. When new players log on and see an empty server they will uninstall and never return. So yeah, I agree we either need AI or a huge marketing push to bring back former players. If we get former players to return and the game looks active, new players will keep coming in.

Just another task delayed for 2+ months by 'admins' (in this case FreeBeer).

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
