Gandalf brings up a good point that Extra Credits also touched upon, LoL doesn't allow you to buy power, so to speak. So the players with money to spend or parents will be much stronger than a free player. Regardless of how awesome one's skins are or how many IP boosts they've bought, most people will have at least one full rune page at Level 30 so it really comes down to skill. You can't buy something like bonus +30 armor penetration for ten matches, which is LoL's strong point.

I hope Dota 2 uses the same model, you can only pay for cosmetic features, while the rest of the game is intact.

Tribes Ascend and Blacklight Retribution are suspect in this way, because the people who decided to drop thirty bucks have awesome ass kicking rifles and armor so not only are they doing more damage, they're harder to kill.

In World of Tanks spending money will make it faster to get bigger tanks, and you can buy premium ammo that has higher penetration (but is still setting appropriate, like the rare early HEAT rounds). You can also buy premium tanks you only get with money, and they are a fun way to get specialist toys and get into high tier fights without playing for a solid year first... but they are actually all flawed machines. They have significant weaknesses (usually a bad gun) compared to the tanks you actually get if you grind your way to that level fair and square. You can also buy more tank slots so you don't need to sell your old low tier ones to make space, and buy vanity camo-patterns.

I think those Belarusians have figured out this Free-to-play-with-option-to-pay stuff pretty damn well. One of the best players I know is our very own Exocet@SF, and he has never spent a penny on the game.

The only things that take a really long time to get are those guns you unlock for classes that cost 100k XP. Each game i get around 500-1000 xp average, so thats quite a few hours into getting one of those things. They also tend to be op (or just way better than what you start with), so they are worth it. Everything else, including all the classes, have a much lower price tag. There are a lot of things to upgrade per class though, in addition to the guns. Thats usually where my XP ends up going. It sounds like world of tanks has an even steeper model that requires more grinding than this.

In addition, the classes and stuff take less time to unlock than the stuff in bf3. The biggest differences IMO is that in bf3 you are still a guy with the same hitpoints as the other classes, without much difference in the weapons. Tribes has hugely different classes that play much differently from each other. BF3 also has the vast majority of the best guns as either thte first unlock or what you start with, so there isnt any point in using the stuff you unlock later. The usas and m98 are pretty much the only two guns worth an effort to grind for that take a while to get.

Also, in tribes you actually have to be able to aim, so noobs like chrono will find it a difficult entry

Ps never saw you till you sent me a pm that said this game sucks, at which point you had left anyway. I dont read the chat as its mostly full of spam or whining. You can add people to your friends list and they will show up for you, but there isnt any notification for me unless i add you as well. You might have noticed friends being highlighted on the field.

You added me first. I went into the game and it said "one friend online" and I was like "I HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED IT YET!" Then it said Noobwich so I thought "oh he added me". Not gonna play again.

My new favourite class - Doombringer.

1. Sounds awesome

2. It has health of the manys

3. Aiming? Bitch please I got a chain gun and homing missiles I don't need aiming sucka.

4. The ability to stand next to the flag hold my forcefield out, deploy it as I see someone coming towards me at 200kph and watch them splat.

I usually end up in the middle of the map ramboing it against multiple targets before my inevitable demise. Not received a negative kill ratio yet.

Homing missile is easily evaded or shot down by decent players and takes to long to lock on. The chain gun will tear people in 2 though if you have decent aim!

Might have to unlock doombringer... Pathfinder is fun and all, but you gotta be a frickin' Ninja with your predictive aim to be good at it.

I got 5 midairs in a game yesterday. It made me feel like I was improving.

And then the next 3 games proved it was just a fluke.
