The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
God why we have to hijack this insane topic to finally have that answer...Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Aug 21 2010, 06:21 PM) Now as reasonable as your request for FAO's DNS keys, administrative passwords, and other "nuclear launch codes" is, I think I'll follow the precedent set by other websites, companies, and rag-tag organizations out there. If you're asking for them, you probably shouldn't have them. (I too am waiting for a mature response from Barrack. I want his football dammit!)
--TE
1st you didn't create FAO and the "keys". I did with Thal & Pook. I was the first to register 'alleg.net' domain with Network Solutions back then (nov 2011 IIRC). I shared these "keys" from day 1. So I'm not a stranger to this website/company/rag-tag organisation. hey check my user ID here, it's #6. You're #225...
Sure I left the boat a few months before MSR released the source code because there was nothing more I could do then without it. I rejoined later to see new people in place (you and DB as lead dev). Fine & good I said then, i'll give it a try and see how it goes, no point starting a revolution. But then I felt like a Steve Jobs when he returned to Apple but without been made CEO again, just a regular dev... I swallowed my pride and tried. It's just a game and all that stuff belong to MS anyway. 2 years I tried. R4 and a part of R5 are the result, not to mention ICE,AME,AMT,etc.
It was painful, very painful for me. Even more when you asked me to be Dev ZL ... what a crappy cookie seen how I consider what the Dev ZL job should be.
I felt insulted once more. Fine it's just a game, then I asked for some obvious stuff like limiting Fuzz ability to spam/troll (keep him away from Dev forum but make the forum read-only to everyone so he and everyone can still know what is going). I get a no and a threat and more insults and a PM that the official behavior with Fuzz & Imago is to fake to tolerate them so we can still benefit from their work. And i won't talk about the Cort & Bard fiasco either...
I shoulda left then. Probably I should now. But I won't give up on Alleg, I never will.
Now that been said, what give your right or ownership of Alleg to deny my request like you just did ? You said "I think I'll follow" so it's a one man decision ?
Will you keep insulting me with answers like 'If you're asking for them, you probably shouldn't have them' ? That's all you got as an answer ?
I've been more than reasonable. I tried to work your way, it's not working. So what do we do now ? Do I have to start my own organisation ? Just tell me WHAT YOU WANT (for the future of Allegiance mostly).
We do need official organization representation - this is holding us back from getting SSL certs and SDK for server lists (like gamespy) KGJV i love this game too and will never leave --- i am starting to love you as well.

These bugs haven't been fixed yet because don't have any developers interested in fixing them up. --Tigereye

So, where's the problem with having rules of governance and by-laws of an organization?
There is none, except, with a not-for-profit and by-laws, no one could reign as monarch.
Then again, I like tyrants.
n.b. Since there are many children reading this thread, I'm not saying anyone specific is a tyrant/monarch/arsehole.
I rather see rules so we don't have more of the "ima take my ball and go home", it's not anybodies fraking ball, it's the communities.
P.S. Someone take off this bull@#(! 10% warning for a necropost that Bard did solely for retribution and not sucking his dink.

To be honest I think you are misreading the ZL role.KGJV wrote:QUOTE (KGJV @ Aug 21 2010, 07:07 PM) It was painful, very painful for me. Even more when you asked me to be Dev ZL ... what a crappy cookie seen how I consider what the Dev ZL job should be.
Since I've had access to the ZL's area, I can see that time and time again TE follows the various ZL's lead, he almost works subservient to them in their respective spheres.
To be honest I felt that you would have been better trying to change the Dev. ZL to what you thought it should be from the inside, rather than troll for it from the outside.
But that's just my opinion.
