If you still have Trend Micro installed, follow the instructions
HERE to remove it completely.
I'm still confident this is either a remenant of a previously installed firewall or that router. It would be nice if you could eliminate that router as a suspect. Any chance you can hook up that machine in another way bypassing the router? If not, try resetting the router to its factory default settings. I think the way to achieve that is by pressing the reset button on the back of the router WHILE you plug it in and keep it depressed for about 30 seconds or so. I'm not sure, but I'll look into it and get back with ya.

My system is similar to yours and I would suggest first of all to add at least another gigabyte of ram memory. Even home basic runs poorly with 1gb. Vista also has a new networking feature in control panel called "network and sharing center".
Here you can run "diagnose and repair" and several wizards for setting up your network. Check the following settings:
status of your local area connection, customize your network as private or public, and network discovery, among several others. By disabling your local area connection (what you are doing is turning off your hardware network interface, the device that uses the cat5 cable port), and then turning it back on you renew your ip address, this sometimes unlocks a frozen connection. Take your time and make sure you've covered whatever there is that may affect your problem with the game. Hope you get online soon.

Ive had the same problem on and off since i started playing, but normally it just goes away, but this time it wont. i dont know any of the specs for my comp, and ive tried all the solutions here that i undestand. my understanding of software and stuff is very basic, sorry =[
all i know is im on vista, and bsg still $#@!s up constantly. i also dont think the router is the problem, because it only just started. i didnt think this was worth having a new thread for; has there been an update recently that could have caused this?
EDIT:
im gettin a new internet provider soon, so the router is gonna be replaced anyway =]
