I've played a few games with FF on, and it's really not much different

Actually i really don't remember ff ever being on more during Beta or MS days than it is now (except for a period last year when jimmy was doing a lot of commanding).

Jimmy in particular and a few other comms like to fly with FF on.
It has never been one of the standard settings used during pick-up game play, special events or squad games that I can recall.
I prefer playing with FF on as it does make one increase their accuracy turreting during bomber & cap ship runs. Anything that will help improve one's accuracy should be considered a good thing.

Are you kidding? It's great! You have a disagreement with some pilot on your team, just pod his ass! Some vet yelling at you? PK him and take away his KB! Then there's always the GT base docking thing, when you can laugh as people pod themselves constantly just trying to get into the green door. And of course there's bombing your own bases, killing your own miners, and generally griefing your commander when he pisses you off. The possibilities for personal entertainment are endless, really.

There are always those sadistic comms who will go GT with FF on. This makes it legitimate for you to ask for a bbr and blow up the base on which you got podded.
The problem with comms turning on ff is that you don't usually check that before joining a game and you always seem to find out the hard way. As to how much it changes gameplay... you can usually fly for quite a while before you find out ff is on, so the effect isn't major.

All the better.
I know you will never have to deal with new soldiers who play with the gun and accidently shoot someone.

Warbirds, a WWII Flight Sim had a pretty good system for FF. On the occation that damage is dealt to a friendly the damage is reversed back on to the shooter. So the fun of trying not to peel the cap of your own nan would be there but the amount of respectfull shots seem to increase when the shooters butt is on the line.

So far as newbies... from what ive seen alot of vets here are killing their own game. I see comms booting newbies in HANDFULL AMOUNTS because "they were sitting in base". I havent been booted like that but maybe the comm should consider "hmm maybe he is trying to figure out what the difference between his missile choices are or what ship to take". I myself enjoy learning the game and reading articles about how to fly better but the fact is some people would rather not play at all if they couldnt learn the game by playing.

Think about the game you are playing people. most gamers are blood thristy want a quickly rewarding game where they can repetitively throw themselves into a crowd of enemies. This game on the other hand has a little more of a learning curve because of strategy physics style combat and simulator properties. So allready we are playing a game here that only 1 out of 3 of the new players you see are going to stick around instead of high tailing it back to a 1rst person shooters. some vets seem to be striving to make it 1 out of 5.

vets and comm need to stop and ponder "am i losing this game because of MY noobs? or because of the vets kicking in my whiney comm hole from the other side" and i have a thought that these same types would be devistated if only vets that could stand toe to toe with them remained so why boot the only easy kills?

I made a small list of changes that would allow newbies to lean more on those patient, tolerant and willing to explain. Keep in mind these changes would effect new players only.

#1 a newbie channel in game chat for the abundance of in game questions we are bound to have (muteable)

#2 disabling the assignment of commands from anyone but comm by default unless changed in game to be commandable to new players.

#3 team wide chat should be muted by default except for comm

#4 new players should get paid more with a locked donate so the comm is compensated for the lack of rank and is more likely to appreciate noobs

#5 ships that can take down structures must be enabled either by team or by person for newbie players

I wish new accounts couldn't post for a month except for the help and cadet forums.
#1 if you ask questions we answer, if they are aimed towrds learning anyway.
#2 The comm doesn't need to spend the entire game giving orders to newbies, if a vet gives you a command do it unless the commander said something else (This is just because most likely that command has real value)
#3 And so we cannot communicate? Or does everything go through the comm? There is a communication problem in this game, further limiting it is stupid. On the other hand getting on TS will help you immensly, you can ask questions, and find out what's happening more easily.
#4 The ammount each player is "payed" is a fixed ammount either recieved in paydays or by miner loads, then devided to the number of players and then ALWAYS given to the commander, how many and what rank players you have on your team do not affect cash flow, at least directly (losing all your miners because you are stacked against...).
#5 they are, you have to ask for cash.

FF has only been the norm in AW1 and maybe AW2. I think it's funnier with it on
