i'm just wondering about the model format...

the bmp.mdl format is quite integral to the conversion process (the mdlc tool chain wont convert a model without having its textures in bmp.mdl format in the same folder, i think the milkshape tool produces bmp.mdl textures)

while were depreciating things like mdlfx, it just occurred to me we wont be able to totally stop using bmp.mdl while we still use the .mdl model format.
sure we can just not use the bmp.mdl s it produced...

i'm just wondering if there was any plans for a new model format (perhaps that supports animated models?)

/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> Adaven thank you. I was hoping that was the case.

Also, asheron2k your link is just to a optional free web hosting service.... It is not a coverter program like you say it is. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Just a heads up.

Madpeople, about animation why would we need it? I mean I would not fly up to an emeny ship to see its missle luancher deploy to pod me... /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I know... Transformer ships... O,o but again... why have animation? It would add to the lag affect as the server tracks hit boxes, and they would change to more or less based on what shape your model is in.

Imho I cant see how we need animation for our game. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

But, I am wondering how it would fit into things. Cause if you have ideas about that I want to know, as I am sure others would be. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Oh, and thanx a ZILLION for all the eefort and work you are putting into this. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Well depending how it was implemented, you could use animations to do things like add visual damage to ships/stations as they get hurt. You could also maybe have turrets appear to point at least in the general direction they are shooting. Capships would look pretty nifty, like battleships prepping up to shoot mass driver.
Stations could open their red doors for someone to launch.
Or when you are researching cruisers in your Drydock, you could see a mock one being constructed.
Engines that turn on some ships when you sidethrust

You could also have the s-foils open and close are starwars.

I don't know, random stuff that would look cool. But you are right, there are other things that would probably help out more.

/wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":iluv:" border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> I am sooo /owned-anim.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":owned:" border="0" alt="owned-anim.gif" /> DANG!!! U guys are FAST around here. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> OK will be annoyed by rapid annoy /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Adaven what I think would be neat is to have turrets that SAW that ship and could not turn in 360 O,o so that it was a little less silly.

But yes seeing a ship open doors to PWN me... WAIT, those are distractions.... BAD DOORS... Dang, I got podded again... O.o

I do like the idea of seeing a base being built... Like the Ages of Empires and others do... Also seeing bases in bits would be cool. Or ships for that mater.
Then we can make a faction that picks up those peices to make its weapons and bases with.... O,o that would be really neat for a PIRATE Ship faction...

As for the SW thing, Have 2 X wings one with foils open, one closed each ship does something different... Open more the Dog fighter, closed more the boosting Int type ship. Choose from the base what role you want to play. OOps, giving ideas away. ;p

MADPEOPLE I LOVE your Allegiance Page you made. Those U-tube things ROCK man. You da-madman /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
