Let me try to phrase this as simply to you as possible.

Alienware = Waste of Money.

You can assemble something that has the same performance as their systems for HALF the price. And with a little skill and ingenuity, make your system look better than their one-trick-alien-head-pony.

hey hey, be nice, alienware is great. i could build a computer, not a great one, but something that can hold alleg. i would do that and keep my laptop for school, but what fun is that? why not get a comp with a warranty and looks nice? i would recomend HP again, but nobody listened...im using my hp laptop now and its close to perfect.
but keep in mind, most 14 year-olds can build computers. i spent about 2, 3 years ok listening and watching my uncle to learn
but good idea imm

Who says assembled computers don't have warranties? You get individual warranties for parts instead of the entire system.

I agree with Immz. I own an Alienware, and have for quite awhile now. While it has been a good comp, and is nice looking, if I could do it all over again, I would do something else. You can get the same system for MUCH cheaper even by just buying from say dell, or hp etc etc. So, while I can't tell you what to do, obv, I would strongly suggest that you dont go with alienware. Get the same system with different looks for cheaper.

What I don't understand is my MP is buying a new computer. Worst case with a virus is, you reformat the hard drive, reinstall all your software and you are in business again.

If you are too lazy to do this, simply go BUY a hard drive and install it on you computer and load all your l337 programs on it. Unless it was a total piece'o'crap comp -- then either go get a cheapy thing on sale at dell, office max, or whatever -- and go from there.

Hey -- I got a stipped down version of an HP for $100 after rebates. I did not need the monitor or the prineter and auctioned them on ebay and made $100. I bought four of these for my office.

I took the $$ I made and bought 2 gig of memory and a video card. MB is crappy -- but who cares right now -- it was bascially a free system. I got this from Staples sale in November. Can't understand why they do this -- seems like a money loser -- but what do I know.

I guess I could have bought and sold these items and taken the profits and built a nice system -- but I am busy RL and would rather play games than take time to build a comp. Tinkering, I like -- building from scratch -- well -- that is work!

So MP -- y did u not buy a hard drive or simply reformat the old drive and go from there?
