Hmm... seems that everyone has already responded for me. Well, I don't really need to push anymore buttons here (and get the topic locked).

Feel free to PM me, I get a good kick out of your clueless posts.

There is no "respect" earned or given for playing a computer for 6-7 years. That simply means your life is rather lacking. (Mine too!) The attitude of "You must respeect my cause I am a vet" is laughable.

Imo, noobs are more important then vets to the community and survival of Allegiance. Noobs have equal right to play this game as 6 year vets. Noobs will give this community survival and growth, not vets. This game is not that difficult to play, Allegiance is quite easy. Allegiance is very hard to master though, and that is where the problem with vets is. Yes, the problem is with vets and not the noobs. Stop the attitude and appreciate the wonder of being new.

BV: You ever played bridge? Go, maybe?

Heck, I think chess is probably harder to learn than Alleg is.

Basic competence is bridge is about 3 times as intellectually demanding as basic competence in Alleg. Mind you, you don't have to learn how to aim, I suppose.

ArcAngel I disagree with the notion that newbies would only see a newbie server. You would seriously slow down their development. Offer them a place to learn without any pressure? Yes. But making it the only offering available to them would be like creating a school for teaching bad habits.

If you were going to do anything under that line of thinking I would propose creating a series of training missions that they would be required to complete before getting into the main server area. This would test them on basic flight, nanning, dropping probes, etc.

Or we could just have them do it just like we all had to do it except maybe we could be nicer about it.

Yes Lyk, your point taken. Basics of Alleg are easy, it is the mastery that is hard.

The issue is they have to take the time to WANT to learn. That was my only point.

Oh yeah, I wasn't arguing that it was easy. Just not as hard as the classics, that's all.

Going back a bunch of posts...

Yes @ACE has more @Allegs than other squads. That may sound bad at first, but it should be noted that over half of them were @Allegs before @ACE even existed.

It's just a coincidence that these @Allegs joined @ACE.

Hardly coincidence. ACE was initially formed by people who would have had the same sort of level-headed and friendly attitudes required to be an @Alleg. The squad's initial stated purpose was, IIRC, to anti-stack and to help people out and to generally make the game more fun especially outside of squad games. I don't find it surprising at all that there's a lot of @Allegs in @ACE.

There are lots of times when there's only 1 newb on. Let alone the fact that if the server starts out empty it's never going to fill up because no newbie is going to wait for another. If you believe that there are enough newbies on to play a proper game (minimum 10 people) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week then you're far more optomisitic about the number of newbies joining alleg than I am. Don't expect there to be an @Alleg online at all times to train newbies either. Even after the latest round of additions coverage is patchy, and frankly we don't want to spend all our Alleg time training newbies, sometimes we like to actually play. And of course you can't add more @Allegs without the community bitching (well, parts of it anyway).

Not to mention that newbies learn far better from vets than they do from other newbies.

Like I said earlier, if you want a newbie free game, go to another server.

Thanks Ang and TE for pointing that out. What you don't realize is that it's just part of my long-term plan to get all of us evil black patch wearers with Alleg access and then ban the rest of you all at once. /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" />
