I bought a thrustmaster , waste of money for me.Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Aug 10 2014, 06:47 PM) Hey Spliff, I have a bonus for you and other mouse pilots of Allegiance.
Solarflux flew Alleg with a mouse, and took to the mouse & KB controls of Elite like a fish to water. Unless you specifically want to swap to joystick use (which is really good for Elite) I don't think you need to abandon the mouse. The change is in the fact that Elite is pitch & roll model, with yaw having about as much control authority as it does in airplanes. It's useful, but not what you use for quick turns.
I love my CH HOTAS setup, but it's expensive gear. The Frontier devs seem to be fans of the Saitek x52 Pro. And one of the best pilots I've seen uses a T-flight Hotas, which is cheap as anything, but apparently perfectly capable of getting the job done well.
If you go with just a stick, I can recommend the CH Pro Throttle as a companion piece. The analogue thumb joystick is utterly sweet for translational control (sidethrusting)
its now sitting in a cupboard collecting dust .
Keyboard and Mouse (Logitec track ball) for me.

The AI doesn't heat, the programmer lady in charge of combat AI is just pretty badass (and they don't allow her to bust out all her tricks either). Let go of the Allegiance yaw & pitch in favor of yank & bank. If you fly with a stick, make it roll on the x-axis like an aeroplane, use pedals or stick twist for yaw.fin wrote:QUOTE (fin @ Jun 14 2015, 09:51 PM) Meanwhile the computer flies circles around me and without gimbals it takes forever to pop anything, nevermind I find myself constantly backpedalling to keep a target in view. THEY seem to change direction a hell of a lot faster...I've figured out that pitch is faster, and of course the throttle range...but still I feel gimped compared to the computer ships.
The AI will put 4 pips to engines when it needs to flip around in a hurry, and is very good at staying in the blue zone. It will also use flight assist off and translational thrust as needed. It's still not as good as humans, but it is good

Sounds like you're flying in some weird ass FPS mode rather than using your mouse as a virtual joystick. Pitch & roll on the mouse, and v-joy. If you're trying to fly in this game like it was Planetside2 you are doing it wrong.fin wrote:QUOTE (fin @ Jun 24 2015, 07:04 PM) Well, 1 week in and I still want to throttle all the people who like the yaw nerf, but I've noticed that there is a really strong contingent of players who think somehow having 3D dogfighting would ruin the game. Still, lots to do. Playing with mouse though, I find most of any combat is circle flying and trying to aquire a target, usually when you do they are just boosting past you. Have tried fixed weapons and completely given up, maybe with a HOTAS I could maintain that level of aim, but I'm wearing a track in my desk pitching nonstop.

Part of it is I go guns heavy, and usually keep 4 pips on weapons. I just assigned a key to toggle flight assist and that is helping immensely. In PvE I'm fine in my Diamondback scout, although I've tried a fight in my B grade Asp and that drop in maneuverability makes me think I'll never use it for fighting, never mind I found the cockpit too far forward and interferes with getting all the guns on target, AND I think the fact that it sounds like a twin engine airplane utterly retarded.Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Jun 29 2015, 07:25 AM) Sounds like you're flying in some weird ass FPS mode rather than using your mouse as a virtual joystick. Anyways, I'm getting used to it but it is far biased towards a HOTAS than alleg.
That Russion hotas, the red 5 defender or whatever, looks sweet...

agri decided to take a break from scanning down the unknown and went a-killing, getting a souped up vulture with shield boosters, gimballed class-d beam lasers and various other delights.fin wrote:QUOTE (fin @ Jul 3 2015, 03:28 PM) Since buying a Vulture, all things are goodAnyone else flying for Hudson?
these things are seriously OP, agri's vulture ("the divine beharie") will easily kill nearly everything up to a Python without losing shields, and has soloed assassination-target Anacondas after an interdiction (but with some damage, though their shields always go first and they havent managed to pop agri yet).
that the ship costs a tenth of what agris' uber-asp costs in theoretical rebuys, and yet brings in vastly more money, does suggest e:d is a bit mad at present.

“Life,” the belgian agri observed, “is a long dialogue with imbeciles.’’
