One important thing that media forget is the influence of far-right movements in recent events.
1. Both Svoboda and Right Sector openly expressed during demonstrations their intent to "recover" territories from Poland, at first diplomatically. How is that for respecting territorial integrity of other countries? (Their claim is bull@#(! btw.)
2. The first thing new parliament did was to abolish Russian as a 2nd official language in Ukraine and a proposal was made to limit voting rights of minorities
3. I don't know about Russians but I know that some Polish nationality visitors and local minorities were harassed by far-right militias.
4. Far-right leaders asked Chechen Islamist terrorists to "support Ukraine" by terrorist acts in Russia. Openly.
5. Protesters were asking for money and weapons. In a live interview one of the protest leaders said that they were receiving funds from western countries but they need weapons as well.

Also:
1. The agreement between protesters and Yanukovych was not respected by protesters, despite guarantees.
2. Yanukovych was "ousted" once already in the past and he still won consequent elections - it seems that he had/has majority support after all.
3. The whole transfer of power was unlawful. No democracy here at all even though they had a chance to do it right.
4. There were and there are protests against new government not only in Crimea but also Eastern Ukraine.
5. New government started placing some of the richest oligarchs in Ukraine as regional governors. Media present the villa allegedly belonging to Yanukovych but forget that Tymoshenko is way richer.
6. Ukraine owes Russia over 1 billion $ in late payments for gas alone. Some media report that allegedly Ukraine paid highest prices in Europe. In fact they had a 30% discount despite rampant illegal transfer by energy corporations (affiliated directly or indirectly with Tymoshenko).
7. Crimea is an autonomous republic within Ukraine. Gifted to Ukraine by Khrushchev even though it was purely symbolic gesture. Crimean governing body asked for Russian intervention

For me Russian intervention in Crimea is way more legitimate than recent interventions by the USA. Especially considering that there is a planned voting to decide whether Crimea wants to rejoin Russia, declare independence or stay within Ukraine

QUOTE Anti Russian protests escalate around the country, "Ukraine is not Russia" shouted.[/quote]
And probably an equal number of Anti-Kiev/pro-Russian protests in eastern part of the country.

The Ukranian military can't win, we all know that, they know that. But if one shot is fired, @#(! hits the fan. Civilians will fight an invader, this is something Afghanistan and pretty much any intervention has shown. The difference is, concurrent deals with the nation. Reverse the situation before you speak, if the US invaded say, Belarus, due to them believing themselves to being Americans, nobody would question foreign intervention by all other nations to stop the "war hungry americans"

Dat double standard

Rather than Belarus you'd have to think of a country which borders the continental US, like Mexico. Imagine a popular pro-Russian uprising that ousted the unpopular pro-American President. Then you have to imagine a significant American population, in a sizable enclave that also houses a base for the Pacific Fleet, that the former government had agreed to extend the lease on in an under the table deal.

We'd probably have a similar situation, with the Russians warning the US not to intervene.

Just another day at the store, and the only people who get $#@!ed are the ordinary ones in the street.

snippet underneath the video as translated with google so it has a Jimmyesque quality

Russian special forces illegally entered the territory of the military unit 191 training unit of the Ukrainian Navy and seized weapons . Attempted exportation of arms was successfully prevented by using blocking BTR- 80 Russian military KAMAZ . Officers became " human shield " around the armored and did not give the Russian military tow it to the side. Despite the fact that Russian troops was shot twice with a gun in the air , not Ukrainian military retreated and did not succumb to the provocation of a military scenario . Thus it was possible to reach a compromise : Russian special forces left the territory of the military unit , and KAMAZ weapons accompanied by Ukrainian military sent to the 174th base storage Ukrainian Navy .
