QUOTE "It may be pointless to try to establish which World War Two Axis aggressor, Germany or Japan, was the more brutal to the peoples it victimised. The Germans killed six million Jews and 20 million Russians (i.e. Soviet citizens); the Japanese slaughtered as many as 30 million Filipinos, Malays, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Indonesians and Burmese, at least 23 million of them ethnic Chinese. Both nations looted the countries they conquered on a monumental scale, though Japan plundered more, over a longer period, than the Nazis. Both conquerors enslaved millions and exploited them as forced labourers—and, in the case of the Japanese, as (forced) prostitutes for front-line troops. If you were a Nazi prisoner of war from Britain, America, Australia, New Zealand or Canada (but not the Soviet Union) you faced a 4% chance of not surviving the war; (by comparison) the death rate for Allied POWs held by the Japanese was nearly 30%.[/quote]
The stakes were pretty high in World War 2, we did kill a lot of Japaneese civilians between the bombing and subsequent nuclear bombing, but Japan was being held hostage by the Military. Even the Emperor (their literal immortal God), wouldnt overrule his cabinet.
Additionally, Asia was being plundered and many millions of Chineese were being slaughtered every few months, it had to end. We did what we had to.
So adept, 100,000 Japaneese casualties (from the bombing) or several million more innocent Asians? (letting japan survive longer means more dead Asians)

I hope that happens soon.
This is for our British couzens.
Adept, please watch this.
I could mention the severity of allied bombing of Germany and Japan, but I'll just give you my philosophy on fighting.
Don't start it and I won't have to finish it.....my way!

the japs killed over 15 million chinese civilians in ww2 with some nasty stuff like bubonic plague and putting the women into essentially rape houses where they were raped until death by soldiers then thrown out and got new ones. But everyone always cries about the 6 million jews the germans killed as the most horrible thing in history
the japs got what they $#@!in well deserved

I don't think the japanese were the good guys either. They had gone entirely mad, possibly worse than the germans. The rape of Nanking alone shows what the world was dealing with.
Also like I said the pre-emptive strike on the US navy was ultimately a self-defeatng move... though I suspect the US would have entered the war on the pacific anyway.

a lot of people are missing the point why I bring up things like firebombing of cities. I think those are events that should be remembered with the feeling of "never agan", rather than emphasizing military battles. War is not pretty, and atrocities commited when fighting against a brutal state are still atrocities and something to be ashamed for and remembered.
@Brood. It's pretty hard to see how the civilians in Tokyo, Hiroshima or Nagasaki "got what they deserved". Other than that I agree on what you say about the Imperial Japan.

This exact same thing happened last year if Im not mistaken.
International community or not being a hater is beneath most of you. I shudder to think the amount of tears from some of the worst offenders if we opened the things you hold dear to inspection. let alone all while putting it in the worst light possible.

It is an unfortunate reality that modern warfare includes civilians. But it is part of the fact. My uncle worked at Oak Ridge , so he helped to contribute to the development of the bomb.If we hadn't nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, millions more (soldiers AND civilians) would have died. The Japanese population was brainwashed into thinking Americans would kill and then eat them. They would have fought with anything they could to save their families. My nephew is now working in Japan as an IT professional. He speaks fluent Japanese. Their country may be MORE free than Americans are.The constitution is a model for future democracies everywhere. He loves it over there and loves interacting with the Japanese people. His FB page is loaded with his friends from Japan. The firebombings were a terrible thing. So were the bombing of places like Dresden and Hamburg. But they happened. America isn't proud about that. The country was pissed off and wanting pay back.It is an unfortunate result of a violent war that we did not want. The complete destruction of Germany and Japan was something we as Americans felt we had no choice but to implement. It paved the way for a more Democratic system of governments. When the population of a country has a better impact in the decisions of their government, they have a lesser chance of being wiped out by a foreign power because the government has decided to put them at risk by becoming a totalitarian global power. BTW, Germany and Japan are now two of the most powerful(economically) countries in the world.
