I'l be honest afaik TE only got a lawsuit from some mother because there was some swear word in the forum and even then I think that was a completely frivolous law-suit because it's not illegal to swear on the internet. Frankly I am annoyed of this roll-over attitude because the only reason I would hire a legal defence from such a frivolous law suit is to sue her back for doing a frivolous law suit.

There are laws and listing the name of a torret site or legal torrent is not illegal, I would have thought CM would be having the law knowledge of that.

This is a freaking forum of an abandoned game which only has a few hundred people viewing it a day, in the grand scheme of the internet this is one of smaller frys out there.

Bay 12 games (of dwarf-fortress acclaim) don't have these problems and they are much bigger then us and the forums are un-filtered.

I do appreciate that TE is the one who has to suffer if anything does go wrong but honestly if your going to censor this you might as well just not allow any hyper-linking and no images, only filtered text (maybe even a mod-preview for everyone just to be safe).

It's not the validity of the case that's in question, it's the potential. And regardless of that you've been told no and that's the end of it no matter what.

It's not that I want to link to torrents (illegal or not), it's that you need to take a closer look at what you are actually saying.

Telling me "no" does not make me wrong.

I don't know why any of you would want to get involved with torrents, they're mostly just a scheme to set you all up for extradition and lawsuits :P

It is a dilema when legal vs illegal over transmitting of metrial is blocked purly because of fear.

However ever I feel cookie and Co. was right to edit the posts as fear is suposed to keep you alive not make you afraid.

With all the recent hoo-ha over the most useless members of society and their childish works, I think it is only fair that we continue to lick the jackboot of our supreme Hollywood masters for fear of being crushed beneath it. We are a small gaming community and we don't need that kind of attention.

However I have been on the end of some truly stupid knee-jerk reactions from the ill informed:-

Conservation with poorly trained ISP rep::
me: My Broadband line keeps dropping out.
him: What OS are you using?
me: Linux mint.
him: Oh no! You shouldn't be using Linux, it's illegal.
me: WTF?!
him: Linux is a hacking tool, I can't help you any more. Sorry. *click*

And that was BT 6 years ago!!

I also got a phone call from them trying to tell me that downloading Linux using a torrent was illegal.

Guess what? I changed my ISP.

Why are torrents good? Simple, file integrity. Why in the name of Armen-RA would I spend X hours downloading a 4gb Debian ISO only to have the md5 check fail.

To all those using torrents illegally (downloading and sharing copyrighted material), you're the reason torrents have a bad name, you're the reason the media companies are going nuts at the moment an you're the reason Stargate Universe was cancelled after only 2 seasons.

LIES! SGA was the worst! I didn't like SGU all that much, but its painfully darker-and-edgier tone was still preferable to the nonsensical cheese-fest that was Atlantis! Rodney's antics were the only thing that made Atlantis even remotely tolerable, and even that only worked because they completely changed his character from what it was in SG-1.

The only true Stargate is the first eight seasons of SG-1, and that is all!
