I hollered about how idiotic this was 3 years ago when I accidentally mis-clicked on a server with newbie in the name. If they can't program it to dis-allow vets, then they should admit how silly it is and remove the ability to be banned for it.

ATM ranks can't be locked.

So you can rank lock on custom games but not on ones dedicated to players of a certain rank?

Also as this was all an accident that no one who knew the consequences of noticed before the game started, are these bans going to be undone or not?

I sometimes misclassified and join the newbie server. You don't get banned for it if you don't actually join the game.

I thought Zone games are locked. Unless I'm mistaken... (Which is the case more often than not )

Normally I don't get involved in enforcement decisions, but in this case I've removed the bans for everyone in that game since it was clearly a mistake. This not only allows you to play again today, but also removes this from your "repeated infractions" multiplier.
