I've personally seen a meteoric rise in Alleg's regular playerbase.
In 2006, we would get 70 on weekends, 100+ for special games like Anniversaries and such. Fast forward to today where 70 is the norm for weekdays, 150+ is a norm for weekends and nearly 200 for special games.
Squad sizes have doubled and almost tripled compared to their 2006 roster sizes.
To me, that is a huge increase in regular players.

There are also ASGS statistics that show a very solid growth trend, but I think TE has to do some work to show them to us.
I'm not saying we should drive away newbies or anything, just that focusing on better retention and newbie education is a better use of resources than advertising when we retain something like 1% of people who try the game, and yet we are still growing.

Apologies for necro-posting, but I didn't want to start another thread.
I'm thinking about guerilla advertising. The www.freeallegiance.org page makes for a fairly neat poster/flyer. I'm thinking about printing a few colour versions of it either in A4 or maybe A3, and posting them up on the university notice boards. I'll just have to make sure the www address is included.
I don't know how silly this sounds outside of Finland, but I it should work fairly well here.

That seems like a HUGE class compared to cadet classes a year or more ago. I don't know the actual statistics but it seems like at 70-80% drop out during cadet or shortly thereafter. But even if only 10% of that number stay and become vets eventually, that's 10 new regular players every cadet cycle, and there are what like 4 cycles each year? That would really good growth for us, when our regular veteran playerbase seems to be measured in the hundreds.Papsmear wrote:QUOTE (Papsmear @ Apr 17 2008, 06:58 AM) I think BV posted 98 applications were submitted for the latest round of CadetI, that seems like a lot of new players to me. Problem is how many will stick around?

(btw that "Even if they are from Turku" is a playful swipe in the classic Old Capital - New Capital theme, played all over the world. Those silly people in Helsinki even think they managed to move the Academy of Finland to Helsinki by nicking the front door (and funding) from our historic university!)
