This is obviously it.
Even in the real world there have been experiments (hell, may well be implemented now) where radar info is used to give sound clues to a fighter pilot about where the other targets are. Exactly like we hear gunfire and booster sounds from the enemies in Alleg.

You can get He3 from the Sun (which is why the moon is supposed to have lots of it), that is where He3 regen comes into effect.
