You know what's crazy? If friendly fire is off, you can't receive damage from a teammate. But you can receive negative damage. If friendly fire is off, that means you shouldn't be able to take ANY damage at all!
Mathematically it's irrational:
QUOTE If damage from friendly fire were to be represented as dff and damage overall were to be written as do, then
do=de+dff
where de is damage taken by the enemy. If friendly fire is indeed enabled for a game, that would mean dff would then be equal to the damage dealt by a friendly pilot. Therefore, if a nanite was repairing a miner being attacked by an interceptor, and the nanite repairs 177 damage/sec and the interceptor deals 150 damage/sec, we would re-write this as
do=150+(-177)=-27 damage/sec, with positive damage being subtracted from the overall strength of the ship before the negative damage.
Yet if friendly fire was turned off, that would mean that dff would have to be set to zero. This poses a problem as it has been observed that friendly fire from weapons causing negative damage indeed do cause negative damage to the ship. That would mean that dff<1 is true, despite the previous corollary stating that dff=0.[/quote]
Friendly Fire, let's bring it back!
But r is just negative damage, so it'd be negative friendly fire damage.

If you mean the game is harder and some tactics less effiscient with FF on, I don't really see how that's a problem. If anything, it's an asset.Cadillac wrote:QUOTE (Cadillac @ Oct 1 2007, 11:54 PM) The con's far out-weigh the pro's here.
Allegiance is a true game of skill afterall, not something that must be easy for twitchy 13 year olds high on sugar (my apologies to all the dedicated 13 year old pilots out there, but you know the arcetype).

The active playerbase now is about 3 times bigger than two years ago. That means there are quite a lot of newbies. They will learn. I don't think it's a good idea to dumb down the game because we have a lot of beginners. I also suspect you are exaggerating the problem quite a bit there.ogorass wrote:QUOTE (ogorass @ Oct 2 2007, 02:29 PM) The active playerbase now is about 3 times bigger than two years ago. Sure there will be the occasional problems, but real offisciers have to deal with unstable soldiers from time to time too /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> and obsnoxious noobs will get booted and banned. All the better.
On the subject of newbies, I'm quite happy to see how many there are. That means word about freeallegiance has spread and the game is getting the attention it deserves. Instead of being rude and insulting to beginnners, people should encourage them to learn this challenging but rewarding game.
And if they are #"€"#wits, then they need to get booted and banned until they go away and return to their counterstrike or WoW. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

I agree with TheBored. FF is just another setting that we can toggle. The game isn't ridiculously easier when it is off, nor drastically different when it is on. I gather that at some point in Alleg's history, FF-on was the norm. Now it isn't
